Aditi

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 21/06/2021 18:02

Oh sorry, what comes to mind.

Diya is the young girl in OITNB.

Aditi is a artists’s name.

All very subjective of course.

BoneIdleBitch · 21/06/2021 18:02

I know an adult Aditi. She is very cool and together.

RickJames · 21/06/2021 18:04

Neha- i guess it's spoken Nayha?

I like that the best. It sounds really calm.

KirstenBlest · 21/06/2021 18:05

Neha - Yee-hah
Diya - looks like DIY
Aditi - a bit too much to live up to

LordOfTheOnionRings · 21/06/2021 18:07

Diya - Ria

Mondaybluesss · 21/06/2021 18:14

Some interesting associations so far! @KirstenBlest Why do you think it’s too much to live up to?
@RickJames Yes pretty much said in that way!

I like all of those. Probably Neya most

KirstenBlest · 21/06/2021 18:35

It's the name of a Hindu goddess

unvillage · 21/06/2021 18:42

@ChardonnaysPetDragon You're thinking of Daya, Diya is not pronounced that way.

Aditi is a lovely name, one of the first children I ever worked with was called Aditi and I've always remembered her. I've known a Diya too and she was very sweet. Neha I really like the look and sound of. Overall I like Aditi best!

Kanaloa · 21/06/2021 18:51

Aditi is really cute. I have never met anyone called Aditi or Neha so wouldn’t think of any type of person really. Diya was the name of a little girl who used to be I’m a club with my DD, she was a very quiet child so I would think of a quiet, shy type of person.

TakeMe2Insanity · 21/06/2021 20:23

Neha everytime

Luckyelephant1 · 21/06/2021 20:51

I like all 3 but they're the kind of names that sound nicer in the Indian accent. Like Diya is not supposed to be a hard D sound but more like a cross between a 'th' and 'duh' sound. Same with the D in Aditi actually.

Anyway what comes to mind for all 3 is a beautiful, calm and feminine girl/woman. There's a Peloton yoga instructor called Aditi who I have a bit of a girl crush on, she's beautiful.

Mondaybluesss · 21/06/2021 22:43

@Luckyelephant1 I agree! They do sound better in an Indian accent but we really like the names & the meanings, can’t really find anything that tops these & sounds pretty much the same in Hindi & English unfortunately. Btw I’ve also seen that yoga instructor!

I love Neha.

drainrat · 27/06/2021 22:33

Aditi - says parents have had a Classical education, and hail from traditional and established Indian family. Don’t give a shit about making life easier for people who only speak English Grin.

Neha - says parents watch a lot of Bollywood films.

Diya - “Modern India” parents who want a name that will travel. Will be pronounced wrongly, but not sound unpleasant when it does.

Enko · 27/06/2021 23:27

Neha - Calm and elegant
Diya - fidget easy to laughter
Aditi - cool and always impeccable looking.

(may be slightly biased by the fact I know a Neha who really is calm and elegant and just one of those who glides through life seemingly effortlessly - its a gorgeous name)

Hughbert · 27/06/2021 23:40

Diya - don't like the Dear similarity
Aditi- like
Neha- love! Taught the loveliest Neha 20 years ago, she was an absolute delight, so name has great connotations, nothing Bollywood related!!

EdgeOfACoin · 28/06/2021 06:14

I've known a few Nehas - personally, I associate the name with horses (the 'neigh' sound, I think!)

My favourite is Aditi.

Mondaybluesss · 04/07/2021 00:55

Grin I love these associations! Thanks everyone!

@drainrat Haha! Aditi sounds like the right one & no we’re definitely not concerned about pronunciation! The meaning/ history behind the name is more important to us Grin

I love Aditi. I'm not familiar with any of them but that one is so pretty.

SD1978 · 04/07/2021 01:23

The only assumption I'd make is that the family is Hindi.
