Wendy has grown on me recently, it's starting to feel fresher.

Twizbe · 14/06/2021 06:52

I went to school with a Wendy (mid 90s) and always thought it was a nice name.

partyatthepalace · 14/06/2021 07:27

Not right now no, it’s too recent.

It’s not v distinguished, so I think best left in the cupboard.

SoapboxFox · 14/06/2021 07:42

No, it's horrible.

AnyaMoondial · 14/06/2021 07:57

I like it.

Domoresteps · 14/06/2021 07:58

Really bad.

GloriousMystery · 14/06/2021 08:07

It makes me think of the sickeningly twee aspects of the Peter Pan character who ‘mothers’ the Lost Boys and wants Peter to talk to her father about marrying her, but also the gruesome, horse-faced wife in A Fish Called Wanda who sees the necklace and coos ‘ A wuh for Wendy!’

Killahangilion · 14/06/2021 08:11

My mum was called Gwendoline and had always hated the name so I started calling her Wendy when she was in her 70’s and she loved her ‘new’ name.

I hope it comes back into fashion.

GreenClock · 14/06/2021 08:18

I was born in the 1970s - I and many of my friends had an Auntie Wendy.

It’s on a par with Maureen, Avril, Beryl and Doreen for me ie those 1940s/1950s baby names that aren’t quite “old lady chic” in the Violet/Mabel/Florence vein.I can see them making a comeback a decade or so from now as those women’s grandchildren start to have babies.

I’ve never met an unpleasant Wendy come to think of it!

Imissmoominmama · 14/06/2021 08:21

I worked with a Wendy as a teenager- she had a terrible wind problem (and it stunk). I can’t hear Wendy now without thinking of Windy Wendy.

TatianaBis · 14/06/2021 09:50

Wendy, Barbara and Janet are crochet friends.

May be due a come back but I hope not.

LewishamMum · 14/06/2021 22:10

Spelling it Wendi makes it seem more modern and less Wendy House/Peter Pan

RoseMartha · 14/06/2021 22:12

Its ok. I like it a lot better than some of the names people post on here. But would not use it as a name for a child I had either.

StayCalm99 · 14/06/2021 22:17

Maybe, the similar sounding Lindy is getting plenty of thumbs up on another thread

Tillygetsit · 14/06/2021 22:17

Yikes no and Wendi is beyond horrendous.

scrivette · 14/06/2021 22:22

All the Wendy's I know, except one, haven't been very nice so I am not keen on the name at all.

thriftyhen · 14/06/2021 22:36

Every Wendy I have ever known has been lovely, friendly and kind and that's how I imagine someone with that name.

DramaAlpaca · 14/06/2021 22:38

No. I know two lovely ones in their 50s/60s but it doesn't need a revival.

PiuVinoPerFavore · 14/06/2021 22:50

Due a revival I think.

Pyewackect · 14/06/2021 22:59

I only ever knew one Wendy and she was the worst person in London. Pretty on the outside but very very ugly on the inside.

StayCalm99 · 14/06/2021 23:02

Not a fan of Wendy tbh but I like that it's not too frilly. amelias and olivias and isabellas are going to be replaced by shorter, firmer sounding names. So although I don't actually like Wendy I like Rhoda and Sandy which are in the same category I think.

Keepitcleanplease · 15/06/2021 00:00

I ❤️ it!
