Caspar or Casper?

Thinking of Caspar/Casper as a name for our baby if it's a boy. How would you spell it (and also do you like it!? I do think if friendly ghost a bit but don't think a baby born in 2021 would be troubled by that!)

Casper, as people will automatically spell it like that, so if you choose Caspar he will forever be having to correct people.

Lollypop4 · 12/06/2021 20:08

Casper.
I'm not keen on the name , Sorry.

QueenOfCatan · 12/06/2021 20:09

I had Caspar on my boys list (had two dds!) but I was amazed at just how many people said "like the friendly ghost?" or similar comments when it's come up in conversation, many more than I thought!

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 12/06/2021 20:11

My youngest is Casper. I slightly prefer the Caspar spelling but most people's default spelling is with the "er" so that's what we went for. He is nearly eight, and he does know of the ghost but it doesn't bother him.

If it were me I'd use a K. Kaspar... less ghostly Grin

Spied · 12/06/2021 20:12

Casper

Noooo Kardashian vibes...
Serpenta · 12/06/2021 23:24

Caspar is closer to its origins than Casper. Plus slightly less ghostly.

Serpenta · 12/06/2021 23:26

With a K it reminds me of Kasper from Borgen. I assume the K spelling is the norm in Denmark.

Cbd333 · 13/06/2021 07:46

Thank you for your replies! I'm not keen on the Kaspar as I have no Scandinavian ties and like a previous poster said, with my surname or would look a bit Kardashian-esque!

I'm leaning towards Caspar I think, although slightly nervously as our surname is one of those 'how do you spell that' ones, but I guess in for a penny in a pound.

I've also been toying with Jasper but I think I prefer Cass to Jas as a nn.

Caspar, like the Wise Man.

Theoldwoman · 13/06/2021 09:14

Casper.

It’s ok, but prefer Jasper.

VodkaSlimline · 13/06/2021 09:19

Caspar

AdaColeman · 13/06/2021 09:22

Caspar.

TatianaBis · 13/06/2021 10:11

Caspar.

Casper is American.

It would never occur to me to use the US spelling unless the child was American. Caspar is a biblical name, I’m surprised British people don’t know how to spell it.

boygirldogcatmousecheese · 13/06/2021 10:12

I really like it & would spell it Caspar

Rosehassometoes · 14/06/2021 09:10

Caspar

TooTiredForToday · 14/06/2021 09:47

I love this name but DH is of the 'friendly ghost' variety Hmm

I think I prefer the Caspar spelling as it's more classic.

I also like the Kaspar spelling and also see Kacpar which I think might be Polish?

Ellmau · 14/06/2021 21:33

I think Caspar is classier.

RosesAndHellebores · 14/06/2021 21:37

Caspar. It is ds's 3rd name because he was born on Christmas day. I refused dh's suggestion of Ebenezer Grin. Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar were the three wise men. Caspar bore the gold.

Pengwyn · 14/06/2021 21:39

I quite like Caspian

Knew a boy called Caspian once

LadyGAgain · 14/06/2021 21:40

Caspar for the same reason. If we had a DS this was one of 2 of the shortlist.

RosesAndHellebores · 14/06/2021 21:41

Prince Caspian was a C S Lewis character I think. Also the Caspian Sea. What about Crispin. It works unless your surname is Bacon.

TooTiredForToday · 14/06/2021 21:42

I really want Melchior on our list but not sure I can convince DH...
