Thank you all for your inputs and opinions! everyone’s of course valid, when they aren’t delivered in a rude manner. We will be using the name. We won’t be naming him Jack Joe or James, Elvis 😍 It’s not a completely wild name, my child won’t be made to feel shit about it, sorry πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ only poorly-raised people would bully someone over having a different name and they’re most definitely someone my child won’t need in their life. Thank you all again!

@JamesWilson1987 sorry just realised your name is James. Please listen to yourself and have a word πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚

it’s not like I’m naming him Adolf or Donald

Donald would be an improvement. Elvis is a ridiculous name.

Dillydollydingdong · 18/06/2021 15:11

Poor kid. He's in for some stick.

OneofPansPeople · 18/06/2021 15:18

What did I miss in James' post that was deletion worthy?

BackforGood · 18/06/2021 15:23

What I don't get, your post says "flame me" - why give your son a name you think will attract such negative attention? You're free to pick what you like obviously but it'll be him who has to carry it every day of his life.

Read the pp's comment from a couple of pages back where she can't mention her colleague (called Elvis) in a meeting without someone feeling the need to comment on it. Every. Single. Time.

Why anyone would do that to someone they presumably love, is beyond me. This isn't about the reactions you get when he is born, or when he is a baby, this is about 90 years of the poor lad, then man having to put up with people commenting, every single time he has to give his name.

Not sure why you posted though, in truth, if you are already determined.

Ok 😊 from who though? Are you raising these dickheads? πŸ˜‚ thank you for your input though Carol x

As a name I like it a lot. As a name I would give a baby, a total non-starter for me. If I was a fan I'd go for Aaron.

elvis4nuts · 18/06/2021 15:57

I know 2 people called Elvis.
And 1 dog.

LostThings · 18/06/2021 16:19

I know you don't like hearing it, but it is likely he will be bullied OP. It's no good saying only dick heads will bully him - the world is full of dick heads I'm afraid.

AndrewW83582 · 18/06/2021 16:32

I think the OP is trying to wind people up. A person normally asks people their opinions on a name, but the OP seems to have made up her mind and thinks that only "dickheads" will ridicule her son.

If you are serious OP then please stop burying your head in the sand and accept that your son would get teased, bullied and people mentioning his name every time he introduced himself. The name is setting him up for jokes because of all of the jokes that go with the name.

Even the title of this thread makes me think that you're trying to get reactions out of people because it's obvious that most people would think you were joking if you told them your son was named Elvis.

Similarly, although there are people with the name, I think some of the messages about knowing people with the name and saying that it's okay are having a laugh too - playing you at your own game.

There's a reason why people avoid naming their kids after famous people with unusual names such as Elvis, Madonna, Beyonce, etc.

OP - Don't be Cruel

Ha, just kidding - I love it!

Pinkypink · 20/06/2021 12:15

We used it as a nick name for my very girly girl daughter. I found it entertaining to see a little pony tailed tutu wearing girl answer to the name of Elvis.
She hated as she got older so we dropped it... reluctantly

SallySycamore · 20/06/2021 17:30

A friend at university dated an Elvis, I think he was from Hong Kong.

There were a few jokes about whether he'd "loved her tender" after he'd stayed over...

But I think now there are lots of different names about. I've come across baby boys Pacer, Pebble and Tommo in the last few months, so doubt I'd raise an eyebrow at Elvis!

JaffacakeJanine · 20/06/2021 19:55

Still love it ;p
Soft option, go for Elliot and nickname Elvis

occa · 20/06/2021 19:59

I know a few men called Elvis, it’s not uncommon where I’m from (Caribbean). I wouldn’t associate it with Elvis Presley particularly.

SayMumOneMoreTime · 20/06/2021 20:10

I wouldn't bat an eyelid at Elvis. Loads of kids have musician names. Herbie, Dylan, Marley, Miles, Jimi. Elvis is a great name.

SeanChailleach · 20/06/2021 20:37

Love love love the name. I do like both Presley and Costello. Itrw I had a chap come to work on my house. His boss told me 'i'm sending you Elvis. He sings very nicely.' He was from S Kitts and Nevis and was a multi-skill - the school syllabus is something like "learn to build, plumb, and wire a house", and he sang calypso while he worked.

Yes because hearing the name Jimi, Dylan or Miles garners the same reaction as Elvis doesn't it? Hmm

A jewellery maker - cultofyouth - has a primary aged Elvis -it suits him!
