My DS briefly had this nickname when he was around 5 months old, because of his crazy hair and dark eyes. It was so cute… FOR A TINY BABY!

Hoppinggreen · 11/06/2021 09:51

@alexdgr8

i worked with a man called Elvis, but he was from somewhere in the west Indies, where it is not so unusual i think. he was also well over six foot and door supervisor build, so no one messed with him. it suited him, and we never thought about it, but for a child in this country, i'm not so sure.
I also met an Elvis from Jamaica But no OP you can’t do it
everybodysang · 11/06/2021 09:51

I worked with an Elvis, he was from Barbados and one of the nicest, funniest people I've ever known. He rocked the name. I think it's great. Why not? Better that than yet another bloody Oliver.

PattyPan · 11/06/2021 09:58

So does one famous person having it mean the name is forever unusable? I suppose because it was an unusual name it became associated just with him

I think this is the thing, it’s such a strong association because he was and continues to be so famous (and OP thinking about it I’m pretty sure I learnt about him in school music lessons in the 2000s so yes kids do know about him) and most people have never met someone with the name. It’s like naming your child Beyonce, except she won’t be famous for as long!

DoucheCanoe · 11/06/2021 10:03

Why announce the name you're going to use and get catty, sorry "witty", about other people sharing an opinion?

You and your child are insignificant to most of us on here - do what you want πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

AnxiousAnnie86 · 11/06/2021 10:15

@Youaretoocool I really like it!!! But I love pepper for our daughter due next week and got absolutely roasted πŸ˜†πŸ˜†

JaninaDuszejko · 11/06/2021 10:17

I think it's fine. It's a real if unusual name not a made up one and so what if one Elvis was very famous, he was a musician not a mass murderer FFS. Go for it OP.

It really isn’t that deep, don’t lose sleep over it πŸ₯°

Ha!!! Fair play, but that poor kid!

Sorry, I just have to πŸ”₯ πŸ”₯ πŸ”₯
Back to the drawing board...

Bluebell798 · 11/06/2021 10:21

I just can't stop imagining a baby in an Elvis suit, complete with sunnies and wig. Too cute!
I would pick a different name though for the sake of your child.

RolloTomassi · 11/06/2021 10:32

I think it's nice enough as a name, but would be a hard one to wear for obvious reasons.

What I don't get, your post says "flame me" - why give your son a name you think will attract such negative attention? You're free to pick what you like obviously but it'll be him who has to carry it every day of his life.

waltzingparrot · 11/06/2021 10:32

You'd think that's would be loads of 80 year olds called Elvis, given how people like to name their kids after celebrities or TV characters. Think of all the Kylies and Chardonnays. Maybe they didn't do it in the 60s.

Serpenta · 11/06/2021 10:33

Go for it if you're determined. But he's going to be in for a lifetime of daily conversations about his name. That can get boring. Give him a plain middle name he can switch to if he decides he hates being called Elvis.

Yellowhighheels · 11/06/2021 10:42

Extremely strong association to live with but I wouldn't say it's unusable- not like Adolf or Myra- EP was a much loved and very famous pop star with some memorable lyrics/ quotes that your son would doubtless have said to him regularly, not someone awful.

OccasionallyFlagging · 11/06/2021 10:47

Would you compromise on Alvin?

June2021 · 11/06/2021 10:48

@userlotsanumbers

Yeah but it won't be you getting flamed will it? It'll be the child, and that's the point.
This.

The adult likes something and doesn't consider the child.

romdowa · 11/06/2021 10:48

There was a guy a couple of years ahead of me in school called elton.. I don't think he ever got any grief 😳

Aposterhasnoname · 11/06/2021 10:50

Well, it’s not to my taste, but I don’t think it’s as bad as people on here are making out.

Synchrony · 11/06/2021 10:56

I know an Elvis in his 30s who is lovely. Tbh I've never thought about his name. It's just his name. It's fine.

Jellybabiesforbreakfast · 11/06/2021 10:58

It's a lot of baggage to inflict on your child. Most parents want to make their children's lives easier not harder. Unfortunately people do judge based on names (and yes, they shouldn't but they do).

HeavenHotel · 11/06/2021 10:58

I love the name!

I do wonder if younger people would associate it with Presley.

I'm going to ask my teenagers.

On another note I watched a Presley film the other night at my MILs, omg it was dire. I was squirming. Hadn't aged well.

Serpenta · 11/06/2021 11:01

Elvis films are the worst! Grin

viques · 11/06/2021 11:05

@SecondCityShark

Christ.
I think I prefer this as an option to Elvis , though I might go for Jesus instead. Grin
Enko · 11/06/2021 13:55

I like it
