Safe or wild card?

So we're down to a safe compromise name, Sophie.

I totally love the name Gloria for some reason and it'll at least be her middle name. Maybe I'll regret not putting it in first position though...

So which name? Sophie or Gloria?

Not that 'wild' imo Gloria is fine Sophie is fine.

Im Probably edging more towards Gloria though

KnottedFern · 08/06/2021 17:41

Sophie. I don't feel like Gloria is due a revival yet.

Merchymor · 08/06/2021 17:43

Sophie is very common (as in lots of them not common as muck or anything derogatory, it's a nice name)

Gloria is not to my personal taste but if you like it and are drawn to it you should go with that one.

I love Gloria Estefan so it has a good pedigree

pinkandstripey · 08/06/2021 17:46

Gloria is a similar vintage as Pauline, Shirley and Carol ie not quite ready for revival IMO.

Twizbe · 08/06/2021 17:50

Gloria is pretty cool. I used to work with one who was lovely. She was in her 20s at the time.

I'd use Gloria for sure

Moonshine11 · 08/06/2021 17:53

Sophie

Sophie

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 08/06/2021 18:00

I love Gloria!!!
it was reserved for a future 2nd DD (after picking Elizabeth Grace for DS) but I didn't get to use it.
she has 6 brothers!🤣

I was gonna use Gloria Eve or Gloria Hope (and also had Lydia Joy as an alternative).

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 08/06/2021 18:01

oh ffs , I meant for DD. not DS.

(kids are distracting me!)

DonkeysNotDisney · 08/06/2021 18:02

Love it, a proper but unusual name, and a fab song

Celandines · 08/06/2021 18:03

Ha ha I was puzzling over that zing

Hufflepuffsunite · 08/06/2021 18:03

Ooh I like Gloria! Amazing it's not more popular - pretty, short, sweet, lovely meaning. Although Sophie is very sweet too.

Synchrony · 08/06/2021 18:03

Gloria!

Fenellasix · 08/06/2021 18:09

Gloria

Candyapple49 · 08/06/2021 18:13

Love both . I teach a Gloria who is 14 years old so I don’t think of it as dated , it suits her really well .

DropItBouncer · 08/06/2021 18:19

My 17 year old has a friend called Gloria. It's a lovely name.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 08/06/2021 18:19

@Celandines

Ha ha I was puzzling over that zing
@Celandines

🤣

DS6 was climbing on me, DD was stroking my arm and DS4 was muttering something about bacon then tickled my nose. I can't type like that. save me!

Angel2702 · 08/06/2021 18:24

I prefer Gloria. Whilst Sophie is a lovely name the fact there are so many Sophie / sophias makes it a little dull.

sarah13xx · 08/06/2021 19:51

I’m an infant teacher and all I think of when I hear Gloria is the angel in the nativity 🙈 There’s nothing wrong with it though and it does sound nice as a middle name. Sophie Gloria would be my choice

YouSeeMee · 08/06/2021 19:53

Gloria, no question

partyatthepalace · 08/06/2021 20:10

I think Gloria is fine, but you probably are at the vanguard of revival.

Sophie is lovely, but it is massively tired, so I’d consider being brave - or picking something a little less popular like Sylvie or Claudia

toastofthetown · 08/06/2021 21:36

Of those two, definitely Gloria. I'd be delighted to meet a young Gloria.

ChaosMoon · 08/06/2021 22:31

Sophie is inoffensive but boring.

Gloria is unexpected but very pretty and will make you take note. I didn't know I liked it until I started reading this thread.

KERALA1 · 08/06/2021 22:34

Definitely Gloria! Sophie is a total wallpaper boring name now. And sounds like soppy. Gloria is fun and unusual - Gloria on Modern Family is a good vibrant character

Tillygetsit · 08/06/2021 22:59

Gloria! So glamorous and...glorious!
