How do you pronounce Aldwyn? Saw it on tv and in my head it sounds nice! I am guessing it might be old-fashioned as the man with the name appeared to be in his 60s.

I don't think it's Welsh?

Kay00 · 06/06/2021 22:51

I would pronounce it Ald-win where the A is pronounced like the A in All. Its a nice name!

SirVixofVixHall · 06/06/2021 22:54

I assume the name is from the place in Gloucestershire.
I have never met a Welsh Aldwyn .

My bad then! He was Welsh and the show was focussed on Wales. That combined with -wyn (a red herring on reflection!) left me assuming it was a Welsh name.

I have fallen victim to what happens when one assumes...

That was my thought too but I wondered if I was mistaken.

The A is like Hal rather than Hall, if it were a Welsh name that is.
I don't think it is.

Alwyn is a name though.

MyDarlingWhatIfYouFly · 06/06/2021 23:08

It's definitely not Welsh, but it is a very nice name.

Griffo123 · 06/06/2021 23:14

I'm welsh speaking. Not heard this name but if I were to pronounce it in a welsh way it would be Ald ( A as in apple)

FontyMcFontface · 06/06/2021 23:26

Welsh speaker, haven’t heard Aldwyn although it does sound Welsh! I have heard Maldwyn and Alwyn.

Ald-win with a hard a as in apple, if it’s Welsh.

DacwMamYnDwad · 07/06/2021 12:13

Alwyn is not a welsh name, although it is used in Wales.
Maldwyn is a welsh name, nice but dated.

Griffo123 · 03/12/2021 23:29

I'm welsh speaking

You'd pronounce it A ( ah) ld win
