It’s early days but I’m already thinking of names.
Below is a list I’ve been gradually building but I’m not sure if any are the ‘one’. Any suggestions based on these? Any which are your favourites/ least favourites/ any to avoid?
Reuben is actually my number one boys name but dh isn’t keen :(

Girls

Marnie
Heidi
Adela
Juno
Tamara

Aubrey
Alba
Violet
Bryony

Boys
Felix
Rafael
Reuben
Jonah
Jonas
Robin
Rowan
Austin
Asher

I knew an Adela....she was a cow sorry.
Alba is fine if it’s pronounced properly.
Marnie is lovely, I knew one of those and she was adorable.
Your boys names are all fine (although personally I don’t like Asher.....but it’s an ok name).

Marnie - like
Heidi - like
Adela - like this, not heard it before.
Juno - not my taste
Tamara - no
Aubrey - like
Alba - electrical goods
Violet - ok
Bryony- like
Suggestions: Astrid, Audra, Estelle.

Boys
Felix - ok but makes me think of cats.
Rafael - ok
Reuben- popular
Jonah- whale
Jonas - like
Robin - like but prefer it for a girl.
Rowan - ok
Austin - like
Asher - not a fan, prefer Ashton
Suggestion: Archer, Lucian, Elijah.

Whatsyourflava · 04/06/2021 20:08

For girls I love Marnie, Heidi, Juno , Aubrey
Alba and Violet

How about Jemima, Clementine, Felicity, Delilah

Boys

I love Felix, Austin and Asher. Austin would be my top choice

I get a bit bored of all the R names. They merge into one a bit. Especially now RoMan with an M is practically in the official top 50, I'd avoid another name so similar especially RoWan with W. Wouldn't have been a problem until last couple of years when RoMan/RoWan got SO popular at the same time. I don't like inevitable shortening to Row. Prefer this name on a girl but the popularity took the shine off it even for a girl now for me.

CherryonBiscuit · 04/06/2021 20:12

I really like your girl names. Boys names I love Austin and Asher. How about Axel?
Find Reuben-Roman-Rowan all merge into one a bit these days now they're all top one hundred names and rising. Dull and overused. Great lists though apart from that.

MrsMop1964 · 04/06/2021 20:22

Jonah used to be a slang term for someone who brought bad luck where I grew up in the 70s.( It was a term used by sailors, referring to Jonah and the whale). I'm guessing younger people wouldn't think of that though.
Jonas makes me think of the Jonas Brothers.
I also thought Aubrey was a boy's name but I realise it's now unisex.
Austin brings to mind Austin Powers.

frogswimming · 04/06/2021 20:24

Aubrey is a boys name.

Spidey66 · 04/06/2021 20:28

@frogswimming

Aubrey is a boys name.
Thats what i thought. OP are you mixing it with Audrey?
partyatthepalace · 04/06/2021 20:44

Love Adela, like Juno and Violet, like Marnie but m as a nn (eg for Marina), quite like Tamara. Bryony a bit meh.
Don’t like Heidi (drippy and/or porny somehow) or Alba (ugly) or Aubrey (also boys name really)

I’d go with Adela, but Stella, Estella or Cassia might be options

Love Reuben, like Jonah and Jonas. Like Rowan and Robin but for girls. Not keen on the rest.

Rory might be an option but like Reuben it’s getting very common - would you consider Ronan or Rufus? Jethro, Jerome, Joel, Jude, Josiah might also be options

Purplegrass572 · 04/06/2021 20:56

Thanks for all the responses. Some great suggestions and some negatives I hadn’t thought of, so you’re definitely all helping me with my list! Reuben is still my favourite boys name though

@frogswimming @Spidey66 Aubrey is unisex - used more for a girls name now though with 223 girls named it in 2019 and only 46 boys. I like it as a girls name more than boys personally. But interesting to know you automatically think boy, maybe most people would.
