Hi everyone!

Evangeline, Evangelina, Evangelia

Thoughts please and thoughts on nicknames?

How popular is it?

How popular ? - I've not come across any (except the Nun on Call the Midwife), and, through my job I see thousands of names of dc on databases from our City.

Of the 3, I prefer Evangeline, but, in truth, is isn't to my taste at all.

I find that nicknames evolve naturally and aren't something you need to plan in advance. Often they will be nothing to do with their name.

weebarra · 04/06/2021 12:13

I know one in real life. I'm in Scotland. She's 8. DD calls her Evvy.

corahallett · 04/06/2021 12:14

I know an Evangeline, she goes by Evie. I think its lovely

partyatthepalace · 04/06/2021 12:15

I like Evangeline - don’t think you need to complicate it. It’s not v popular BUT there are a billion Eve/Eva/Evelyn/Avas - and she’ll get called Evie just like them, so I wouldn’t use it

Angeline or Angelica instead?

Genevieve, Marianne, Josephine, Gwendoline, Caroline, Emmeline...

Velvetbee · 04/06/2021 12:16

Love it. She’ll probably end up as an Evie though.

WhispersOfWickedness · 04/06/2021 12:16

I love it! Would probably use Eve or Lina as a nickname Smile

SpongebobNoPants · 04/06/2021 12:17

There’s a 5 year old Evangeline in my DS’s class at school, the kids have nicknamed her Gelly (said like jelly) which is super cute.
I like Evangeline, perhaps because the little girl we know is lovely, polite and very cute

Swingoutsistersledge2 · 04/06/2021 12:18

I love that name . Reminds of the girl in Nanny McPhee 😊

notangelinajolie · 04/06/2021 12:25

There was an Evangeline (Evie) in House of Eliott and I've loved it since then.

Serpenta · 04/06/2021 12:27

Evangelia sounds like a nervous condition brought on by too much religious fervour.

Evangeline/Evie is the nicest

You can see how popular it is here

@notangelinajolie

There was an Evangeline (Evie) in House of Eliott and I've loved it since then.
I was going to mention that but I mentioned House of Elliot on another Evie thread yesterday and didn't want people I had some kind of weird House of Elliot obsession Grin
Happenchance · 04/06/2021 12:28

Evangeline and I prefer Van or Vanna as a nickname.

ILoveShula · 04/06/2021 12:49

too close to Evangelist. Too likely to be yet another Evie or Eva

Babynameblock · 04/06/2021 13:57

Thanks everyone, my sister who is due just before me has announced to the family that she is using a name that is basically the same as the name I told her (only her) I was using and is pretending she hasn’t noticed/ forgot. So panicking a bit, agree with the comment about Evangelia- but had seen it as a variation on the name and wasn’t sure. In would prefer the nickname to lean away from the most commonly used Eva type names as I know a few of them. I feel like I’m starting from scratch very far into my pregnancy when I was so sure of the name. Sad

I only know one 13 year old Evangeline, I’d not come across it before, she doesn’t shorten hers. It’s a beautiful, classic name.

Bimblybomeyelash · 04/06/2021 14:40

What about

Clementine
Josephine
Jocelyn
Connie
Vanessa
Anika

CaffiSaliMali · 05/06/2021 21:50

I really like Evangeline, Evangelina is also nice but a bit more of a mouthful to say. I do like that it gives Lina as a non Eve/Eva/Evie based nickname though.

I also like Juliet and Josephine which have a similar feel to me.

PurpleFlower1983 · 08/06/2021 21:28

I know one and she is Evie. Her sister is Madeline.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 09/06/2021 02:10

For some reason Evangeline/Evangelina etc has quite religious overtones to me (maybe because I've never met one in RL).

I prefer the sound/look of similar Evelina - still exotic/international sounding, multisyllable with lots of nn's (Lena, Leni, Ever, Evie etc). I do like similar Emmeline too - very retro elegant.

sunshineandshowers21 · 09/06/2021 02:35

it’s one of my favourite names. i really wanted to use it for my eldest daughter but there’s already an evie in the family and i knew that inevitably that’s what it would be shortened to. i went with emmeline in the end, which has a similar sort of sound/feel to evangeline.

Aquamarine1029 · 09/06/2021 02:46

I love Evangeline. It's beautiful.

FierceBarrie · 09/06/2021 03:09

It’s a lovely name, but the world has enough Evies.

Sorry your sister pinched your name. I know names don’t belong to anyone, yada, yada. But that is poor form.

Elisandra · 09/06/2021 03:15

I love Evangeline. Beautiful. (Not Evangelia though.)

choli · 09/06/2021 04:28

The one I know goes by Vangie.

Miniestelle · 09/06/2021 06:33

Hi,
My daughter aged 14 is called Evangeline. I think it's the most beautiful name ever and have had lots of compliments on it. I remember Evangeline from House of Elliot but was really taken with it when I heard of the actress Evangeline Lily. She went by Evie mostly which is quite popular so it is great to have a 'Sunday name'. I love how it sounds when you say it aloud. Just as an aside though, they have decided they are now non binary and are now known as Sam. I'm not gutted about the non binary thing just not saying the anymore is a bit gutting.
