Can’t use my only boy name

Due in 5 weeks time. We have seriously struggled with a boys name we both agree on, we finally found one a few weeks ago and I felt really settled on it, I don’t 100% love it but I seriously haven’t come across anything else I wanted to consider.

The name is Archer. A family member has just announced her babies birth and this is her babies name! Typical! But it is what it is, we never told anyone so it’s just a complete coincidence.

So if I liked Archer, what else might I like? Please help!

Asher still sounds a bit like Archer to me..not keen on Archie
Jasper and Cooper also good but Isaac would be really good!
Maybe make a shortlist of 4 and decide when you meet him..

Other Noah siblings i know Ned (Edward), Set, Kit, Theo, Barnaby,
Felix and Toby (tobias) ..

Heath is very cool! I’ve not heard of any around here.

I suggested Fraser the other day but DH wasn’t keen.

Yes to Grayson, it’s a great name but another I wouldn’t be able to use as already used in the family.

Most of those 80s and 90s name suggestions we have in the family and are used as middle names for our kids these days Grin

I definitely think I’ll make a shortlist and see what suits him when he arrives, if he is a he after all this!

I really like Reid from that list flytrap!

Who cares if this person thinks you copied them? So what? They'll think of it fleetingly then forget all about it. They won't particularly care what anyone else calls their own child I expect. If you like Archer just stick with it - it's a lovely name. Just message and warm them if you're concerned and then forget all about it
Asa and Axel also nice
Ellis is one of my fav names ever so maybe pick that. Again if your friend thinks you've copied, so what? Just tell them you already liked it.

NameChange30 · 04/06/2021 15:30

What does your DH like? Has he actually made any suggestions? You've mentioned a few nice names that you like but he's rejected. None the other way around.

FWIW I think there are a lot of names suggested on this thread that are much much nicer than Archer. You'll probably end up preferring the name you eventually choose. Or have a girl Grin

MrsXx4 · 04/06/2021 15:57

Erm....DH has some very ‘out there’ suggestions. For example names like Augustus, Dakota, Bear etc. So you maybe able to understand why I was thrilled we finally agreed on a fairly normal sounding name like Archer. It still appealed to his ‘wanting to find a rare name’ side but one I would feel comfortable shouting over the park etc.

It’s surprising really we have a Noah, he didn’t like the name Noah but after my 3 days of labour and him being born in quite a scary emergency situation he just looked at me and nodded when the midwife asked if we had a name and gave me the go ahead to use it. Now he loves the name and it suits our son so much even though it’s like top popularity!

Jonah goes great with Noah

Randomo · 04/06/2021 16:22

Jonathan.

After Jonathan Archer. (If you get the reference, you get it)

Arden

Fletcher? They made the arrows the archers used!

Mason?

Yeah I find boys names really hard! We have a girls name we both love and agree on so at least that’s sorted but I have a strong feeling this baby is another boy.

This was me OP and when DS2 ended up being a DD1 it was quite a surprise! We didn't even really seriously think about girl names when I was pregnant as I didn't see the point. Luckily when DD was born one of the few names we had discussed (and I really loved) suited her.
Even more lucky really as DH had secretly gone off of the only boy's name we had managed to agree on.

We had issues finding names we both liked with both DC. My DH is really picky! Grin Good job we aren't planning any more kids.

Good luck settling on a name (or even sounds like you might have enough suggestions for a shortlist if you are lucky).

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 05/06/2021 07:13

Speak to her and ask her if she’d mind if you also used it. Explain it was the only name both you and you partner love etc.
My cousin asked me if he could use my son’s name if he was to have a boy in the future. I don’t at all.
I only see him a few times a year so it’s not going to be constantly confusing for the kids and honestly, I was quite flattered that he loved the name enough to have such an awkward conversation about it.
Will they have different surnames?

TatianaBis · 05/06/2021 09:09

Love Jasper - nicer and more classic than Archer. Also goes very well with Noah being biblical.

Synchrony · 05/06/2021 13:04

Talan?

sarah13xx · 05/06/2021 15:30

Oh nooo ☹️ Was sure this was going to happen to me! One of my best friends was due around the same time as me but luckily hers was a girl.. was sooo relieved because I think we have similar taste 😂 Archer is very unusual too! Tate as someone else has suggested is nice. Vince/Vincent/Vinnie? Ari? Finn? Jasper?

MrsXx4 · 05/06/2021 21:37

I’m liking a few of these suggestions. I’ve made a shortlist:

Jasper
Hudson
Cooper
Isaac
Lewis

DH has come up with Zane but I’m not entirely convinced.

If he likes Zane, does he like Zach (or Zack)? Could be short for Isaac or Zachary

@MrsXx4

I keep seeing Hudson, it’s growing on me for sure.

I really like Ellis too but have a very close friend with a boy named Ellis.

I also don’t mind Blake.

I have a son already called Noah if it helps.

@MrsXx4

DS4 is Noah too.
his brothers' names are Joshua, Samuel, Michael, Isaac & Elijah.

other names I considered : Aaron, Reuben, Jethro, Micah, Dominic
