Boy names

Due our DS in a few weeks and I’m REALLY struggling with names.

Originally we liked Freddy but I’ve changed my mind and don’t want to use it now.

I then loved Otto but DH didn’t, so that’s come off the list.

The only names on the list now are
Jesse
Riley
Reggie

I only really like Jesse, DH likes it but it’s not his favourite. I’ve trawled this forum endlessly and haven’t found anything I like more - why are boys names so difficult!

Tell me your favourite boy names 😍

Jesse is great!

Otto makes me think of Nazis, and the other two sound like downmarket naughty boy names that may not help them in life...

Rory, Levi, Eli nn for Elijah, Jerome, Joel, Jude, Jonah, Jonas, Milo, Bruno, Leo/n, Robbie nn for Robert, Christy nn for Christopher, Sandy for Alexander, Nathan/iel, Nico nn for Nicholas, Ronan, Reuben, Lorcan, Caleb. Any good?!

WhatTheFlap · 03/06/2021 20:25

@partyatthepalace a lot of these have been on our list at some point but have dropped off for various (mostly quite stupid) reasons 😂

I have no idea why I find boys names so difficult! I could name about 50 girls easily!

What names you like for adults?

The names on your list are baby names apart from Otto. I don't like any of them. Freddie (spelt that way) and Reggie are the better ones.

I know an adult Jesse and he got call big jessie a lot so I'd not use it. I don't like Otto or Riley at all either.

KirstenBlest · 03/06/2021 22:44

How about trying more grown-up names. A friend named her child a name that wasn't trendy, which seemed a bit boring for a baby but it really suits him now as a teenager.

HaNNaHC92 · 03/06/2021 22:57

I've got two sons - a 3 year old called Noah George and a 19 day old newborn called Benjamin Arthur

Emerald4512 · 03/06/2021 23:01

I love Jesse!

BackforGood · 03/06/2021 23:01

I don't like Jesse as it is used as an insult

I mean, my tastes and yours are clearly different, which is fine. I'm not keen on either Riley nor Reggie but at least they aren't anything someone would call him if they wanted to insult him.

Synchrony · 03/06/2021 23:04

I really like Jesse.
Also love David and Jocelyn (nn Joss).

MumofSpud · 03/06/2021 23:08

No no no to Reilly - he will be v v v naughty at school and not in a cheeky Freddie/Charlie /Alfie wayShock
(Experience of Reillys in 4 different schools!)

Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo · 03/06/2021 23:08

I like Jesse but it is still used as an insult so I’d avoid it.

I don’t like either Riley or Reggie but prefer Riley.

How about:
Otis
Arlo
Joseph/Joey
Henry

Cowbells · 03/06/2021 23:12

I love the name Jesse. I like Otto too.

Also love Izaak (Zak, Zaki), Rory, Raphael (Raf/Rafi) Elijah, Elias, Ezra, James.

CeibaTree · 03/06/2021 23:21

We had Otto on our list for DC1 - other names we liked were Jasper, Felix, Rowan and Griffin.

lms2017 · 03/06/2021 23:22

My son is Jesse. He is 5 now and not once has he been insulted . He knows his name can be spelt differently for a girl , also the same as Sam , Danny, Kelly , Bobby, Charlie etc and all the others boys/girls in his class with unisex names.

If someone says to him (young kids usually comparing to toy stories jessie! ) that's a girls name he puts them in their place and tells them it's for both he usually references himself the famous outlaw Jesse James Grin

And I haven't heard anyone call someone a "Jessie" for being a wimp since.... forever. That my dad's generation and he is 80!🤣

BackforGood · 03/06/2021 23:36

and I genuinely hope that continues Ims, but, at 5 he's not spent a lot of time at school yet.....

CherryonBiscuit · 03/06/2021 23:45

I know a little lad called Jesse never thought of it as an unusual choice it's a lovely normal name , great choice @Ims

Otto is nice how about Hugo

CherryonBiscuit · 03/06/2021 23:48

@BackforGood there's so many unusual names these days, Jesse would be one of the most mainstream names at my child's school. You know Jesse is a top 70 boys name in England and Wales. Nearly 900 baby boys born and named Jesse in 2019. 13 girls.

sarah13xx · 04/06/2021 07:40

Boys names are SO hard! I’m due soon and like you, Freddie was top of our list but I just don’t feel like I love it enough to use it. Jesse is nice! What about Milo, Felix, Kit, Ari, Finn, Alfie, Reuben? Since I’ve been pregnant Reuben has really grown on me

sarah13xx · 04/06/2021 07:42

Another vote for Jasper too actually!

Violetlavenders · 04/06/2021 10:29
