Middle names for Sebastian

Hi everyone! Whilst we’ve always loved Sebastian almost from the start with no hesitations (until I read posts from forums that made me doubt it but sticking with it!) we are struggling with middle names for him! We’d like something short given that Sebastian is a long name and also we'd like something fairly classic. We have some ideas I’m posting below and some comments on them. Any other ideas?? Baby due in less than a month and we really don’t know!

Sebastian Milo - probably the least classic among the list. I love Milo but husband doesn’t seem to. Also I was hoping for a more masculine name as a middle name so this one looks unlikely
Sebastian James - solid choice we both like
Sebastian Joseph
Sebastian David
Sebastian John
Sebastian Arthur - I fear the two together May sound pompous
Sebastian Oliver - I like this one and so does husband
Sebastian Theodore - I fear the two together May sound pompous

First thought before opening your thread was James!

musicalfrog · 03/06/2021 03:54

Don't you have family names you wish to use for his middle name? Are any of them family names?

BirdyBee · 03/06/2021 04:20

My nephew is Sebastian Dylan, it was between Dylan and Daniel!
Sebastian James is lovely.

HeadlessGummyBears · 03/06/2021 04:21

@FrankensteinIsTheMonster Same here! Smile

OloBo · 03/06/2021 04:27

Another James before I opened. Gorgeous.

FrankensteinIsTheMonster · 03/06/2021 04:32

Rhythmically, I think James works well. It's a single syllable but long, so it balances Sebastian's quick syllables with a slowing-down. Another multisyllabic name would keep the tempo high. The longer vowel means it doesn't get "lost" as much as a shorter single-syllable name like John might.

Maybe Luke, Jude, Charles, Mark etc. could also work?

Aria999 · 03/06/2021 04:33

My immediate thought was Jason

XYZXYZ · 03/06/2021 04:35

Sebastian Cain.

Aria999 · 03/06/2021 04:35

But it doesn't really matter if the names go together, just pick another name you like then he can use it if he needed an alternative (either he hates Sebastian or it plus your surname becomes the name of a famous mass murderer. This happened to a friend of mine).

My immediate thought was Sebastian George. Love James too and it’s one of DS’s middle names.

Standrewsschool · 03/06/2021 04:45

James was my first thought also!

Alternatives:
Finn
Guy
Jack
Tate
Lucas
Isaac
Eli

Shelby1981 · 03/06/2021 04:59

Our son is Sebastian Nate Smile

FrankensteinIsTheMonster · 03/06/2021 05:04

George, Nate and Cain fit the single-syllable-but-long pattern! 😄

Theoldwoman · 03/06/2021 05:06

Before not write

Umpteenthiteration · 03/06/2021 05:18

Sebastian Alexander
Sebastian John
Sebastian Peter

Sebastian Milo - I like this. Sebastian Miles would be a good compromise maybe?
Sebastian James - ok. A bit dull imo but it's alright
Sebastian Joseph - nice
Sebastian David - not so keen
Sebastian John - a bit dull
Sebastian Arthur - I love this. As long as the surname doesn't start with G or D. I don't think it sounds pompous at all
Sebastian Oliver - completely love this. Again as long as surname doesn't start with D or B
Sebastian Theodore - again don't think it sounds pompous but maybe doesn't flow as well as others.
I also like:
Sebastian Oscar
Sebastian Felix
Sebastian Hugo
Sebastian Maxim

Oh thanks for all the ideas and suggestions ladies!!! It's great to have a second opinion (or in this case many more!) so thanks a lot! Given the amount of people thinking of James maybe we should consider it! But some other lovely suggestions in here and I'll definitely share with husband. 😍

James is a very popular middle name. Nice name, but very, very popular.

Other shorter choices:

Sebastian Luke
Sebastian Max
Sebastian Rex
Sebastian Joel
Sebastian Eli
Sebastian Jake
Sebastian Noah
Sebastian Leo
Sebastian Ross

Sebastian Luke would be my choice, closely followed by Sebastian Joel. Very handsome names.

wanderedlonelyasacloud · 03/06/2021 20:26

Yep my first thought was also James before I opened your thread! I also like Oliver

babycorn1 · 03/06/2021 22:42

Do people actually care about middle names these days?
