What are everyone's thoughts on the name Penelope? And what nn options does it have?
Will it work with the surname Chipp?

I love Penelope. My niece is Penelope nn Penny

Checkingout811 · 02/06/2021 12:28

Penelope Chipp sounds like a book character. I like it.

Angel2702 · 02/06/2021 12:47

Love Penelope

We considered it with Nellie / Nel as a nickname.

cheeseisnice · 02/06/2021 14:32

Anyone else?

And that middle name would you suggest?

Sorry, WHAT middle name would you suggest?

Penelope Chipp.

Penelope Zara Chipp
Penelope Jane Chipp
Penelope Amelia Chipp
Penelope Laura Chipp
Penelope Rosa Chipp

cheeseisnice · 02/06/2021 15:56

Penelope Jane has quite a nice ring to it. Smile

It was on our final list. We didn’t use it in the end but I like it.

Middle names - Anne, Claire, Elizabeth, Catherine, Catriona.

Lemur12 · 02/06/2021 16:38

I quite like it, though not one I'd go for myself. I really dislike Penny as a nn, but love Nell.

Checkingout811 · 02/06/2021 17:05

Penelope Violet Chipp?

Penelope Grace Chipp

Penelope Harriet Chipp

zingally · 02/06/2021 17:10

Sounds like a Roald Dahl character, but a fun one!

RaineyMae · 02/06/2021 17:12

Penny Chipp is a bit problematic for me ...

Chilldonaldchill · 02/06/2021 17:15

It's ok.
I think it will be one of the big risers, along with Margot.
I know several baby Penelopes.

Checkingout811 · 02/06/2021 17:23

Penelope has been popular for years. I wouldn’t think it a riser.

Oh. How so?

Penny is a unit of money and Chipp sounds like what you would eat.

So together it sounds like a menu item from
olden days.

Not awful as an association - but if I met one IRL I’d wonder if it was a stage name iykwim?

DappledThings · 02/06/2021 20:56

If DC1 had been a girl he would have been Penelope. We changed our mind by the time we had DC2 but I still like it. For a girl middle name was always going to be Jean which I think goes with it.

I've just checked because I haven't met a Penelope born later than the 1970s until recently (and living in London/working with children I feel like I see the trends). According to names.darkgreener.com/#penelope it was very uncommon prior to 2012 and has been going up significantly since then and in 2019 was just outside the top 40. I'd venture a guess it's well within the top 40 this year.

My thoughts exactly! Penelope Chipp sounds lovely. I imagined a character who goes off on adventures Smile
Talkwhilstyouwalk · 02/06/2021 23:09

It's become popular recently. If I'm honest I really don't like it, though Penny is ok.

Ikeameatballs · 02/06/2021 23:11

I love it with the nn Nell.

Sawyersfishbiscuits · 02/06/2021 23:14

I like it.
I'd have NN Poppy or Nell. Much nicer than Penny.

caringcarer · 02/06/2021 23:25

Sorry, don't like it. Reminds me of Penelope Pitstop.

partyatthepalace · 02/06/2021 23:30

I like Penelope but it will get shortened and think Penny is pretty grim - and Penny chipp is not a happy combination. I like Nell but don’t think Nell chipp is great either.

Cheesypea · 03/06/2021 07:31

I have s relative with this name. Shes never never called Penelope. It's a bit of a mouthful.
