Maude?

I just saw this name on a kid's show today and all the other characters called her Maudie. Suddenly this name seemed adorable.

Thoughts?

If not, what name would you pair with Tabitha?

I'd go for something like Beatrix, Cordelia, Willow, or Jasmine. I'd be really miffed if my sisters was called Tabitha and I got lumbered with Maude!

SleepingStandingUp · 31/05/2021 23:40

No.

The sisters Tabitha and Maud. Tabitha was the beauty of the family but such was her sweet demeanor that no one ever held it against her. Except possibly her sister Maud, the only thing plainer than her face was her personality. All anyone remembered of poor Maud was her large glasses and dour look. Whereas there were always tales aplenty about Tabitha who was always the life and soul of the party

Zillah

Matilda.

Sunnyfreezesushi · 31/05/2021 23:48

I know two Maude’s almost 10 years old. Both beautiful, creative girls with strong characters. Both Maudie when younger. If you like the name, go for it. I think it does go.
Also have a Tabitha in the family. Middle class “artsy” names.

Sunnyfreezesushi · 31/05/2021 23:51

The Tabitha I know has a sister called Cecily.

We have a Tabitha and should her brother have been a girl we had the following names lines up
Saskia
Imogen
Remy

I'm not sure which we would have opted for as we always had 1 girls and 1 boys name on our original list ...

Just to say, I posted this without reading other suggestions first. It looks like there’s a similar thread though.

I follow someone on Instagram who has a chronic health condition that she's nicknamed Maude, so that's all I think of when I here the name!

BikeRunSki · 01/06/2021 08:13

Zoe or Kimberley amongst the Tabithas I know.

Posieandpip · 01/06/2021 08:27

Ooh Felicity nn Cici is cute! And so is Cecily! Clementine is fab too. I love Beatrice/Beatrix but Tabitha sometimes gets called Bea by younger relatives who can't say her name yet! Love Jemima but DH vetoed it for Tabitha 😢 Also love Saskia but only as a full name, I'd worry she'd be called Kiki as a nn and there was a really mean girl at my school called Kiki so I've ended up hating the name! Cassia is lovely too, does it have a biblical vibe? I do love a biblical vibe, or woild I need to go for Keziah to get that? (Which i like in theory but would be deathly afraid she'd be known as Kez which reminds me, for some reason, of a middle aged man holding a pint Grin)

My first thought went straight to
Marnie
Madison
Paige
Eloise

Tabitha and Felicity sound fab together. In your notebook, it might help if you you write the names in your shortlist with Tabitha to see how it would sound and look together (or the two nicknames together). That way you can almost see you can find yourself calling them in the park or seeing it written down in a card so it will give a better idea when narrowing down your shortlist. Or just write the full name in the notebook and see how it all looks and sounds altogether?

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 01/06/2021 13:23

@Posieandpip - technically only Keziah is Biblical and Cassia more likely Ancient Roman (the feminine of Cassius, but also a nature name as it is a type of cinnamon). But many etymologists think they come from the same root/origin word. The traditional nn (if wanted) for Keziah is Kizzy but I suppose people could use "Kez" for Keziah unless corrected.

MissBPotter · 01/06/2021 21:14

I like Tabitha for dd3 and I have a Beatrix and a Florence already. I’m glad to see some people on this thread with Tabithas as I was worried it was a little too unusual, but perhaps not Smile

Maud is a diminutive of Matilda.

I love Matilda with Tabitha. They’re both historic names.

You could name her Matilda and call her Maud/ie at home.

I know a very beautiful clever Maud btw, not plain or dour at all.

TatianaBis · 02/06/2021 07:37

I also love the name Delilah.
