Had started a thread already ré Mabel, thought I'd start another one with other options!

Our boys name is decided it's Henry...

Our dc are Arthur, Matilda & Mollie...
I love M names & was hoping to stick with another M if this little one is another dd but I could be swayed..

My question is how would you imagine a little girl & grown up

Marina
Mabel
Daphne
&
Florence

Thanks in advance mumsnetters!

I wouldn't do an M personally as it would make your DS the odd one out, although I do love Mabel.

From your list I would choose Florence.

It's turned into a bit of a family tradition to have the Ms which is why it's a bit sentimental... OK one vote for Florence 👍

I think Marina sounds quite glamorous. Daphne is quite quirky and, I think, suits any age (I know a Daphne in her 80s and a baby Daphne). Florence - well, actually I know 2 babies born this year and they both have this name! So possibly going to be quite popular or maybe just a coincidence. I don't mind it, not mad about it. Mabel - I don't really like it that much and also it's quite similar to your other girls. I'll vote for Marina.

I know a lady in her 50s/ 60s called Marina. She’s fabulous. Glam but down to earth.

Nora1978 · 31/05/2021 20:15

The only one I like is Marina.

StealthChange · 31/05/2021 20:15

Marina is just lovely, and far more sophisticated than the other names, would choose it all day long. Florence and Mabel definitely rocketing up the charts, but not my thing at all. Daphne is fine, but not a patch on Marina.

SoapboxFox · 31/05/2021 20:16

I think Daphne would go really well with the others. It is definitely retro cool.

messeduphair · 31/05/2021 20:16

Marina makes me think of Last of the Summer wine or an actual marina. Can't see the appeal

SameToo · 31/05/2021 20:17

I like Marina a lot. Florence is such a meh popular name. Mabel in my head is a dogs name.

Daphne. I’m not sure. I like it as a whole name but what’s the abbreviation? Daffy? I don’t like that.

doorornottodoor · 31/05/2021 20:18

Not keen on Mabel, it’s got an ugly sound to it. I think Florence, Marina and Daphne are lovely. Marina is my favourite.

partyatthepalace · 31/05/2021 20:25

Marina - you just know Marina is an explorer with a cool head, who is a riot on a night out.

Florence, Mabel and Daphne are all nice enough, but they are cutsey, Marina is way more sophisticated.

Marina - little Marina likes to play outdoors in nature, searching for worms and spiders, making a snail hospital. She loves animals but struggles a bit with other children. She's very inquisitive though and likes talking to adults.

In her 20s Marina is an intelligent young women, studying evo diversity at University and a member of the green peace society. She studies hard, but likes watersports, hiking and drinking coffee with her select few friends. She's ambitious in terms of career but actually also wants quite a simple life. She collects house plants and really wants a pet dog

Mabel is quite a spirited child and is used to getting her way as she is somewhat over indulges by her parents and grandparents. She's an intelligent child though and very well read. She's friendly but bossy which sometimes loses her friend's.

Mabel in her 20s is studious but also very sociable. She throws the best parties really catering to her guests likes and can talk to anybody. She is studying business or economics and hopes to run her own business one day. She dances as a hobby.

Florence is a quiet but very friendly child. She has a great interest in being creative and spends slot of time drawing and junk modelling. She has a few close friends, she enjoys singing and dancing. She is average at school.

Florence is her 20s is working on computer game concept art, she has a quirky dress sense but is rather sensible in personality. She carries various notebooks and sketchbooks with her everywhere she goes in a satchel and her room is covered in ideas on little bits of paper too. She has a steady boyfriend who she has been dating since she was 16 and a beloved cat. She baby sits in her spare time and is great at imaginative play with children.

Daphne is a bossy child who hates not getting her own way. She is quite bolshy and outspoken, sometimes rather rude. She is close to her mum. She tells other adults what she thinks they should be doing and makes friends easily but struggles to keep them. She is often whiny, but usually gets her own way. Teachers often find her a nightmare.

Daphne in her 20s is now less bolshy but does like to show off and make out she is better than others. She likes designer clothes and handbags. She works at a secretary in a successful business and is rather flirty. She struggles to keep female friends for very long. She lives in an apartment which is very modern in design. She likes to go to the gym and spends her weekends partying, sleeping in then working out.

Hope you don't mind that I've just gone with my idea of what girls / women with these names would be like.

Based on the names themselves I like Florence best, followed by Marina

Chicchicchicchiclana · 31/05/2021 20:38

I really like all of them except Marina.

IdblowJonSnow · 31/05/2021 20:41

Marina is lovely. Quite a glam adult name to me!

Xmasbaby11 · 31/05/2021 20:46

I like Florence best and have heard it as a young name but don't know any irl.

Marina I struggle to feel as a name .. too much like marine/ mariner .. makes me think of ports and boats which is not good! I've never met a Marina or heard of one in real life so that undoubtedly colours it.

Daphne and Mabel are old lady names so I'm not keen.

MadameOvary81 · 31/05/2021 20:47

I would chose Marina. It's beautiful.

Marina is a rich, slim blond. Quite opinionated.
Mabel, Florence & Daphne are all essentially the same name as far as I'm concerned. Quite dull, slightly overweight. Only memorable thing is her slightly quirky name ... which may well turn out not to be that quirky.
Arthur & Matilda are very matchy as a sib set in my opinion. Mollie doesn't quite fit with them. Mabel & Florence definitely do fit with Arthur & Matilda. Daphne probably does. Marina doesn't.

RuthW · 31/05/2021 21:24

Well I have a grown up Florence. She's a petite, intelligent secondary school teacher and an independent woman, so don't have to imagine.

Eachpeachpears · 31/05/2021 21:49

I have a Mabel. I love her name so much. I imagine her to be a shy toddler, cute blonde hair and carrying her bunny around.
As a teen, I imagine her to push boundaries but only to her limits, which she has comfortably set just outside of the boundaries laid out but not so far out to lead to deep trouble. Home at 11 rather than 10, that sort of thing.
As an adult, I see her in a caring career, a nurse or vet or similar.
She's so coy at the moment, I could just eat her up!

hadtojoin · 31/05/2021 22:03

How about Mirriam.

boatymcboatmum · 31/05/2021 22:16

I like Mabel I think it goes well with your kids names too
