Girls Name List?

ellabye · 31/05/2021 18:28

Can you rate my list please?

Struggling between names I think might date / be common, and names that I think I might be drawn to because they're safe!! (And does that mean boring? Lol)

So far I have:

Olivia (safe, but popular?)
Livia (will this just be mistaken for Olivia anyway?)
Anna (safe, but is it too boring??)
Nina (sweeping up the charts so might date)
Mila (probably will date easily!)

... other ideas also very welcome!!!!

Olivia (safe, but popular?) - way too popular
Livia (will this just be mistaken for Olivia anyway?) - Olivia minus the O
Anna (safe, but is it too boring??) - safe
Nina (sweeping up the charts so might date) - I like it
Mila (probably will date easily!) -I don't like it

Anna is the one I'd pick, maybe Nina. Wouldn't put the others on a long list never mind shortlist.

Olivia (safe, but popular?) - I like olivia, its popular for a reason
Livia (will this just be mistaken for Olivia anyway?) - like it!
Anna (safe, but is it too boring??) - nice but yes a little bit boring. I love annie though.
Nina (sweeping up the charts so might date) - I've seen a lot of love for this name on MN but I really dont like it! Nina to me is my grandmas 80 year old friend!
Mila (probably will date easily!) - like it, it may date but it seems to me that mila already peaked a few years ago. (This isnt going off any data at all, just off the number of babies I knew of being born called Mila a few years ago vs now)

It seems you like names with lots of vowels kn so how about
Tessa
Annie
Pippa
Erin
Amelia
Luna
Anya
Lena
Penelope / Penny
Phoebe
Fearne
Alicia (a-liss-ee-a)
Alice

I find Olivia and Anna quite boring. I like Livia and Liv, but think they'll be mistaken for nn for Olivia. Not that keen on Mila, but I really like Nina. My dd is called Nia (nee-ah) which is a Welsh name, and haven't met one so far in England, where we live.

Other options -

Meera / Mira
Thea
Iris
Anya
Lydia
Leila
Ophelia
Sylvia / Sylvie

Flymetothestars · 31/05/2021 19:06

Anna is not boring, it's beautiful

How about Anya or Marnie

I really like Olivia and Nina too. Willa? Jemima?

Standrewsschool · 31/05/2021 19:09

Olivia, Anna and Nina are good classic names.

Not keen on Livia or Mila.

Suggestions:
Naomi
Tilly
Faye/Fay
Purdy
Gemma
Hannah
Hayley

Olivia - yes, it's popular but there are so many girls names that I don't think she'd be surrounded by multiple other Olivias all the time. I only know 4 under 8 years old.

Livia - love it. Much prettier than Olivia imo. I've only ever met one. I did mishear it for Olivia but only needed correcting once.

Anna - like it. Classic and well known but not overly popular.

Nina - not keen on this. Not sure why. It's ok.

Mila - quite like it. Can see that yes, it might date. But don't know if that really matters. You can usually tell roughly how old someone is anyway.

Ideas a bit like Olivia and Anna but less popular if that bothers you:
Astrid, April, Bronte, Bryony, Clarissa, Claire, Diana, Eliza, Edith, Fiona, Frances, Giselle, Harriet, Hazel, Imogen, Iona, Juliet, Joanna, Kathryn, Leah, Laura, Miranda, Melissa, Natasha, Natalie, Ottilie, Opal, Phoebe, Philippa, Rosa, Robyn, Sadie, Sylvia, Tamara, Tegan, Verity, Vanessa, Zara

Or more like Livia and Mila:
Aria, Aliya, Briar, Cassia, Carissa, Dana, Etta, Enya, Freya, Fenella, Greta, Gloria, Hana, Ida, India, Juniper, Kyra, Kayla, Lyra, Lena, Mika, Mala, Nia, Nyla, Orla, Piper, Ramona, Rowena, Saskia, Stella, Veda, Willa, Xenia, Zia

SoapboxFox · 31/05/2021 20:18

How about Annina?

Posieandpip · 31/05/2021 20:19

Nina 100%!

Or how about Alma, Rosa, Isadora ?

MissyB1 · 31/05/2021 20:30

Tbh names that end in “a” are all very popular at the moment. I work in a nursery, I’m losing count of the Milas/Lolas/Olivias/Ellas/Lydias
They are the new Evie/Sophie/Rosie

Pretty and relatively uncommon names I’ve come across recently;
Mary
Celine
Ruth
Frances
Rhiannon

Aquamarine1029 · 31/05/2021 20:39

How about Farrah?

partyatthepalace · 31/05/2021 20:43

Anna is a lovely classic so of your list I would go for that. Olivia is lovely but way overused, Livias will just blur with the Olivias. Mila and Nina will both date quickly and they are both a bit nothing-y (they are just nick names really - compared to the classic and distinguished Anna and Olivia.)

Cecilia or Celia, Serena, Susannah, Adela, Stella, Esther, Honor, Francesca, Claudia, Helena, Cordelia, Selina, Estella, Louisa, Clara, Hannah, Cassia, Leonora, Joanna, Iona, Flora, Alexandra nn Sacha, Miranda and Antonia are all good alternatives

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 31/05/2021 23:03

Olivia. Yes what you say is right. However its also classic ageless and timeless and has a gorgeous sound.
Livia. I think I'd use Olivia on her BC. There's nothing stopping you from calling her Livia day to day. Like you say people will assume her name is Olivia in any case.
Anna. Is safe but it's far from boring. Same vein as Olivia pretty and timeless.
Nina. Is one of those names its always been around but never really in abundance. I don't think it'll ever become popular enough to become dated.
Very pretty name. However while I don't think its dated I wouldn't call it timeless either.
Mila. I really don't like this. Is it My-la or Mee-la either way the sound irritates me.

Other ideas.

Alice
Ella
Sofia
Sophia

Olivia - gorgeous and Shakespearean but just too popular now for me. Classic Celia or Julia instead? Or Octavia, Ophelia or Cordelia if braver?

Livia - unfortunately yes it probably will get mistaken due to Olivia's popularity and the fact it's not that well known outside Italy. Could consider Gaia, Claudia, Lydia or Lilia?

Anna - not overused enough yet in the UK to be dull imo. Rather it's a classic, popular international name that doesn't feel quite as old-fashioned as Anne (plus has fun nn's in Anya and Annie). Could perhaps consider Antonia or Anastasia (nn Anna?) though if you want something more unusual.

Nina - Anna's quirkier cousin imo. International and semi-classic too but will probably rise further in popularity as people look for similar alternative simple/short names to more popular Mia, Thea, Maya, Eva, Anna, Emma etc. Lara, Sara, Cora are other ones that are likely on the way up.

Mila - yes very trendy and will likely date (it's the new Mia, Maya, Amelia/Emilia). People haven't seemed to have really discovered Mara or Mina yet though.

Of your 5 choices Anna would be my pick.

miltonj · 31/05/2021 23:15

Love Anna.

I don't like Mila pro induced 'Me-la' but I like It pronounced (and possibly spelt), Myla.

BettySuz · 01/06/2021 07:53

My daughter is Olivia and despite it being the number one baby name most years since she was born, we have not come across many others. She was the only one in her year group of 90 at primary, and again at secondary school. If you like it, I wouldn't let it put you off. I also work with children and hardly get any Olivias compared to all the Mias Amelias and Jessicas.

Anna is OK, but agree its a little boring. What about Alice instead

Twisique · 01/06/2021 08:37

Alina

lebigface · 01/06/2021 10:00

For me Nina is the nicest then Mila they are both very pretty names.

Anna is nice enough but a bit boring maybe better as a middle name

I think Olivia has become rather dull, like Jane of the modern day it really lacks imagination. I think it's likely people will think Livia is short for Olivia and she'll spend her time correcting people.

pastawithsauce · 01/06/2021 16:35

Just saw this I have a Nina! I think it is getting slightly more popular but it is more marmite than some of your other choices so I don't see it getting overwhelmingly popular. None in her school, though I sometimes hear "Oh, Nina was on our list." Love all your other choices! I know more Junos than Olivias and Anna was also on my list. (DH thinks it is boring he is wrong.)
