Harvey?

Struggling for boys names, and recently thought of Harvey? What does Mumsnet think?

I'm probably showing my age but my go-to thoughts were Suits (Specter), Batman (Dent), and Sabrina the Teenage Witch (Kinkle!!) All of which I think I'm ok with.

A quick google has also reminded me of Katie Price's eldest, and also Weinstein 😕

I like that it's cute for a baby / little boy, similar to the ever popular Harry, but an established name in its own right (going back to the 1800s) that would also suit a man.

Slightly concerned it could be a common dogs name!!

I've always liked the name. It's long established and I like the sound. Soft but masculine.

cariadlet · 31/05/2021 18:06

This is going to make me sound positively ancient but my first thought is giant invisible rabbit and my second is Harvey Proctor (disgraced Tory MP from the 80s).

Not keen.

ChocOrange1 · 31/05/2021 18:08

My cousin in named Harvey, and I know a couple in their mid teens. I think its nice. As you say it's similar to popular names like Harry, but a bit different and won't be mistaken for yet another Harry. I also like that is not too "nicknamey", so suitable for an adult

MurryFuff · 31/05/2021 18:08

I'm not keen but that's because there's a Harvey in my sons class who is unbelievably whiny and downright miserable.

For that reason I am put off.

DotDotDotDotDot · 31/05/2021 18:11

Sorry but I also heavily associate Harvey with Katie Price and Weinstein, making unusable for me. It is a shame as it’s actually a decent name in many ways. Alternatives maybe Cameron, Louis, Harrison or Fraser?

Twizbe · 31/05/2021 18:13

I know a Harvey who's about 6. Never met another one. It's not a name I'd choose but nothing wrong with it at all

Hellocatshome · 31/05/2021 18:16

Nothing wrong with it but nothing great about it either in my opinion

MissingTheMoonlight · 31/05/2021 18:16

Lovely name

FedNlanders · 31/05/2021 18:17

I associate it with a naughty kid.

toto23 · 31/05/2021 18:17

I'd think of Sabrina's Harvey, and also Katie Prices .

It's a nice name, I don't know any dogs with it .

ColaOlaLa · 31/05/2021 20:27

I’m not a fan

Maria53 · 31/05/2021 20:29

I just think of Weinstein now

partyatthepalace · 31/05/2021 20:49

I quite like it, and the Katie P and Weinstein associations will be forgotten when he’s a teen.

Tillygetsit · 31/05/2021 23:16

I'm not keen tbh. Reminds me of a furniture shop.

coldtenant · 31/05/2021 23:21

It’s a great name!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 31/05/2021 23:32

Not classic/traditional feeling enough for my personal taste - I do prefer Henry, sorry (and yes, apart from the classic invisible rabbit film, my next thought for Harvey was Weinstein but that association might be forgotten in a few years). But I don't think Harvey is unusual enough for anyone to be surprised or make comments about the name, so if you love it, go for it!

ODFOx · 31/05/2021 23:34

It's a great name. I don't get any of your references but ver the last 30 yeas I've worked with two Harvey's who were both lovely and I don't know any child Harvey's.
Love it!
Not the first thing that popped into my head when I read your OP but the James Stuart film 'Harvey' is a charming classic.
