I'm down to these 5 and would really appreciate some outside perspectives. Ty :)

Like Zara.
Dislike Joella - Joely is much prettier
Rosie - fine.
Alannah - very 80s.
Marie - quite dated Irish catholic.

KirstenBlest · 30/05/2021 18:31

Zara - fine, but the shop
Joella - Seems made up. Joely is much nicer
Rosie - fine
Alannah - nice but some will say it as Al-AHN-uh
Marie - nice

I think I'd piick Marie, unless you add Joely

partyatthepalace · 30/05/2021 18:59

Zara for sure
Rosie is nice but way overused
The rest are a bit low rent

Jizzonmy · 30/05/2021 19:02

Love Marie

Nonameyet1 · 30/05/2021 19:35

Zara or Rosie for me.

DramaAlpaca · 30/05/2021 19:36

Zara or Rosie for me too.

CandyFIosss · 30/05/2021 19:43

Yep Zara or Rosie

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 30/05/2021 20:02

I like Alannah best

Darbs76 · 30/05/2021 20:21

I vote for Zara. I have a Zahra, age 13 now. Arabic spelling for family connection. Only ever had positive comments

SionnachRua · 30/05/2021 20:28

Joella - a bit Alabama trailer park imo.
Alannah - pretty.
Zara - nice
Marie - I like this a lot! Very different these days.
Rosie - just doesn't measure up to the other Ros names (Rosalie, Rosanna, Rose, Rosa) imo. But it's a pretty nickname.

Posieandpip · 31/05/2021 07:24

Zara or Rose.

NOT Joella 😳

Marguerite2000 · 31/05/2021 09:19

Joella makes me think of the Duggars. All the others are fine.
Zara is my favourite.

Penny21xxx · 31/05/2021 09:33

Alannah is my favourite out of them and is on my list. Spelt Alanna/Alana though so pronounced - A-lar-na. A few people we asked said Alannah like - Al-an-ah.

3CCC · 31/05/2021 09:41

In order of preference
1)Rosie - love
2) Alannah - love
3) Zara- meh
4) Marie-meh
5) Joella - really dislike

DotDotDotDotDot · 31/05/2021 09:44

Zara or Rosie for me, although I prefer Rose or Rosa for a full name. Not keen on any of the others for a lot of the reasons already mentioned.

joystir59 · 31/05/2021 09:46

Rose or Rosemary rather than Rosie
Marie is acceptable
The rest are awful

MaidEdithofAragon · 31/05/2021 09:52

How about Zelda instead of Zara? Rosannagh is good too. Don't like the others.

xprincessxjanetx · 31/05/2021 17:08

Rosie is my favourite by a mile on your list. Zara second and not keen on the others i'm afraid.

Junipersky · 31/05/2021 17:17

Zara - I really like. Having said that I tend to love all 2 syllable names that end in "ara" - Clara being my favourite.
Joella - I actually think this really pretty. Reminds me of a lovely childhood friend I had called Joelle.
Rosie - Love this. My favourite from your list I think. I also love Rosa and Rosanna.
Alannah - Pretty. I'm always confused as to whether it is pronounced Al-anna or Al-ar-na, but I like both!
Marie - The only one I'm not so keen on. I prefer Maria.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 01/06/2021 16:17

Zara and Alannah are lovely (although I prefer the simpler, more popular Alana spelling).

Marie is okay, but sounds more dated currently compared to classic Maria imo.

Not keen on Joella - and I'm not sure most people would know how to pronounce it (Jo - ell -ah or Joel -ah?).

Rosie is popular but I find it a bit cutesy personally (fine as a nn for Rose/Rosa or Rosalie, Rosanna etc though).

KirstenBlest · 01/06/2021 17:22

It's a simpler spelling but I would say it as Alan-ah, some would say Al-ahna. Alannah is easier because it tells you it 's Al-annah

I suppose it depends on what OP finds easier - if she's in E & W Alana is in the top 200 and nearly 3 times as popular as Alannah so it will likely be the default spelling.

I'd also pronounce all the variations as "Ah -lah -nah" personally (unless corrected), as anecdotally that's how the ones I've met/heard of have pronounced their name (in the US, England and Australia - I'm not sure about other countries though).

KirstenBlest · 01/06/2021 18:48

Do you pronounce Hannah as Hah-nah too?

PiuVinoPerFavore · 01/06/2021 18:58

I like Zara.
I don't like Joella but do like Joely.
I don't know the pronunciation you mean for Alannah. I would say
A-LAN-ah like Alannah Morissette. Don't love it either way.
Marie sounds dated to me
Rosie is pretty for a wee one but I don't like it for adults. And there are loads of them.

17caterpillars1mouse · 01/06/2021 19:28

The only one I don't like is Alannah.

Joella is quite pretty and I've never met one before. I also really like Marie. Zara is a name I've always liked as I think it sounds strong. Rosie is a bit cutesey for me and I know of two babies recently named it
