What do you think of the names Lucille Aria and Liesel Aria?

Our last name is a 3 syllable one and ends in -a.
Something like Silona, Rivera (not actual name)

Hard to pick a name!
Also thinking of nicknames. Lucy for Lucille and Lily for Liesel? Would Lucia for Lucille Aria be appropriate?

Thanks in advance, everyone.

Lucia is not a nickname of Lucille, it's a separate name, and much nicer than Lucille
Liesel is not nice at all

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep · 26/05/2021 06:36

Also lily and liesel are different names too. A nickname will develop naturally over her life. It's daft to plan to call her something else than her name from birth. Just name her lily or Lucia if you want to call her that.

EdgeOfACoin · 26/05/2021 06:38

Lucy, Lily and Lucia are names in their own right.

I like Lucia. Not so keen on Lucille.

Liesel is quite nice. I've also seen the spelling Liesl.

EssentialHummus · 26/05/2021 06:50

I prefer the Liesl spelling. I like Lucy, but I'd avoid Lucia because -a Surname -a sounds a bit clunky to me.

Saltyslug · 26/05/2021 06:58

Aria is nice. However I much prefer Aurora nick name Aura. Oriel is also lovely

joystir59 · 26/05/2021 07:02

I don't like either of your combinations, the names are fighting with each other in both cases.
Lucille is a good strong name
Aria is a good strong name
Liesel (prefer Liesl) is a good strong name
Lucia is lovely but I don't know how it sits with your surname.

joystir59 · 26/05/2021 07:03

I don't much care for Lily

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 26/05/2021 07:12

Liesel when spelt like that looks like diesel.

Lucille sounds a bit pretentious and would get shortened to Lucy.

Liesel would probably get shortened to Lisa or Lis.

DonLewis · 26/05/2021 07:13

Liesel is really pretty!

woodfort · 26/05/2021 07:20

I’ve always loved the name Liesl.

EverythingWasGolden · 26/05/2021 07:23

Liesl is gorgeous. The rest of your names are ok. I wouldn't have a first name ending in 'a' if your surname does though.

SinkGirl · 26/05/2021 07:25

Love the name Lucille but I’m a huge Arrested Development fan so could never use it 😂

Ughmaybenot · 26/05/2021 07:25

Liesel just makes me think of diesel, and Lily is just a bit dull.
I personally dislike Aria, it’s just a bit.. bleh for me.
Lucille, it’s okay, but Lucia (not remotely a nn for Lucille) is much prettier.

toastofthetown · 26/05/2021 08:18

I echo what previous posters say, that your nicknames don’t make a lot of sense. I love Liesel (especially with the Liesl spelling) but in not sure where Lily comes from. Of course if I was told to call Liesl ‘Lily’ I would do, but I’d wonder why you just didn’t call her Lily in the first place.

Similarly with Lucia, I don’t see how it’s a nickname for Lucille. They have the same root, but it doesn’t make sense as a diminutive. I actually prefer Lucy on its own to Lucille. I’m assuming that you don’t want to use Lucia as your surname ends in an A too. Personally I think Lucia Rivera sounds fine and I prefer it to Lucille again, but it might clash with your actual surname.

LittleGwyneth · 26/05/2021 13:04

I think Liesel and Lucille are both lovely. I can see Lily from Liesel, o Lila.

Lucille might be Elle, Lucy, Lulu, or Lula.

ILoveShula · 26/05/2021 13:42

I don't like Aria at all.

Lucy is much nicer than Lucille.

Liesl is how it is spelt. Liesel looks like diesel.

If you are going to call her Lucy, Lucia or Lily, just use those names.

DalPalak · 26/05/2021 15:56

I love Lucille and Liesel. Aria is beautiful as well, though it seems to be getting more popular so I like that you have it as a middle name instead of first.

Personally, I don't see any issue with thinking ahead to nicknames, though more often than not, those develop naturally.

thewreckofthehesperus · 26/05/2021 15:59

I just think of the Vegas hotel when I hear Aria.

partyatthepalace · 26/05/2021 20:05

I don’t think Lucille works very well with UK accents - how about Lucienne? Lucy fine as a nn. I don’t think you want an a ending with an a ending surname

Liesl is quite nice (it’s spelt like this) - it doesn’t really need a short form, and seems a bit pointless giving her a relatively unusual name only to shorten it to the very common Lily?

bubblebath62636 · 26/05/2021 20:14

Personally I'd pick a one syllable name. The ones you've suggested seem a little fussy.

Butchdanes · 26/05/2021 20:18

I think going with 2 names from cult tv shows (if you like that kind of thing, like me) is too much. I just read Lucille aria as walking dead game of thrones.

Aria would have been the name we used I’d our boy had been a girl. I like it on its own.

I’m not a fan of your suggested combinations but it is your child and you should call her whatever you like 😊

StevieNix · 26/05/2021 20:27

Liesl is the only one I like of your list
