I think we're 90% certain on Kitt, but would you go officially Christopher? How would you announce it?

As in Kitt (Christopher) and just hope everyone says Kitt? I'm giving fat too much thought on this haha

“Pleased to announce Kitt’s been born, full name Christopher XXXX”

CroydianSlip · 23/05/2021 23:15

If you like Kitt then call him Kitt.

I love it personally but would go with Kit as no one will remember the second T

I like Kittow if you're looking for a 'long'

babyboysname · 23/05/2021 23:19

Thank you, I really like Christopher as that was my Grandad's name but just prefer Kit/ Kitt for when he's younger. Then he can pick as he gets older

Christopher James smith, affectionately know as Kitt, was born on ... weighing...

Blacktothepink · 24/05/2021 00:14

I love Kitt!

ILoveShula · 24/05/2021 08:41

The conventional spelling is Kit.
Kitto is the conventional spelling not Kittow.

Inastatus · 24/05/2021 08:44

I think it’s a good idea to have Christopher for his birth certificate but tell everyone he will be known as Kitt.

sarah13xx · 24/05/2021 08:54

We are still between two names but we’re considering Kit. The thing that was putting me off was the Christopher thing. I would definitely announce it as Kitt if that’s what you want him to be called. I think I might be one of those people who would also just put Kitt on the birth certificate but I know most people put Christopher

Frazzled2207 · 24/05/2021 08:55

I considered Kit.
Not sure about the two Ts.

Emelene · 24/05/2021 08:57

I think the 2 tts will be confusing. I love Kit though! I agree, “Christopher X, known as Kit has arrived weighing ...” would work fine

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep · 24/05/2021 08:58

If he grows up being called kit he's unlikely to change it to Christopher later on. Just call him kit (one T)

ILoveShula · 24/05/2021 10:58

If you call him Kitt, it will get misspelt a lot, and he will be given things like pens and mugs with Kit on them when it isn't his name.

I'm not keen on Kit, but Christopher is nice.

ThatIsMyPotato · 24/05/2021 11:04

@Dryshampooandcoffee

Christopher James smith, affectionately know as Kitt, was born on ... weighing...
This is good. If you don't tell people both names they will either shorten it to Chris or get confused if someone calls him Chris when they know him as Kitt.

I'd use Kit personally.

ladycarlotta · 24/05/2021 11:12

Spell it how you like, Kitt is fine and using Christopher is a lovely tribute to your granddad. In my family there's an uncle Christopher and nephew Christopher, one Chris and one Kit. I think it's really nice to have a namesake that's not too in-your-face.

partyatthepalace · 24/05/2021 11:16

This - Christopher nn Kit is lovely,

It is usually a single T

Cindie943811A · 24/05/2021 13:46

I think @Owltwitterings suggestion is the better one.
Introduce DS as
Kit. — full name Christopher James Smith
That way the first name everybody reads is Kit and it will make the first impression and stick in their minds.
If Kit is written after the BC name it is more likely to be overlooked or forgotten by many

Flymetothestars · 24/05/2021 20:29

I love Kit (one T though not two!)
Just say
Introducing Christopher "Kit" [Surname] ! Born on X day weighing X

EssentialHummus · 24/05/2021 20:34

Go with one t, imo. Otherwise it sounds like the car from Knight Rider Grin.

We have a lot of nickname shenanigans because of DH and the need for Russian diminutives. I think last time we went with “Nikolai Mikhail, to be known as Kolya, was born...” or whatever.

BettyUnderswoob · 25/05/2021 10:36

I love Kit... spelt correctly like that, though! Absolutely fine to have it as just Kit, but if you fancy Christopher, then I think a PP had it with:

Introducing Christopher "Kit" [Surname] ! Born on X day weighing X

Kitto sounds like an annoying toff.

babyboysname · 28/05/2021 12:49

Thank you everyone, I think we will go with Kit but Christopher officially, as it has a special meaning.

Also yeah that's Kit I spelt it wrong, sorry for the ones it outraged 😂

My DH is a Christopher and goes by a short version similar to Kit. But he's had a lifetime of people seeing his full name and assuming he's Chris, which he hates. So if you have a preferred nickname then it's not a bad idea to just use that. Avoids confusion later in life.

Violetlavenders · 29/05/2021 08:33

The most natural shortenings for Christopher are Chris or Toff.

If you prefer Kit, I'd probably just name him Kit.
