Caitlin/Katy/Kitty

I have a son called Noah. I'm expecting a girl in a few months time. I posted a few times and then came off here because I got frustrated with myself that I didn't 'love' any girls names.
I've recently heard the name Katy. The person was really lovely and it definitely made the name stand out. That got me thinking back to Caitlin (Kate-Lyn) also.
So please tell me what your thoughts are on Caitlin, Katy and Kitty?
Which would sound nicest with Noah?

Thank you x

PS These would be full names. I dislike all longer versions and don't like the whole formal name/nickname thing.

I love Caitlyn and Katy. Not so keen on kitty.
I think that Caitlyn works best with Noah.

partyatthepalace · 22/05/2021 16:41

Caitlin - goes best with Noah. Lovely and not that popular right now.

Katie is a bit 90s and dull as a full name, and Kitty definitely too babyish. But if you want them as nn Caitlin will give you that option.

TatianaBis · 22/05/2021 16:52

When you say you ‘recently heard the name Katy’ what does that mean? Are you not English?

Otherwise is a very common, overused 90s name.

Palmtreesandoceanbreeze · 22/05/2021 16:54

@TatianaBis I mean I recently heard it, having not heard it for years.

I'm surrounded by Katy/ Katies.
Kitty would be a bit less commonplace in my experience.

Yika · 22/05/2021 16:55

Caitlin is lovely.

custardbear · 22/05/2021 16:55

We have a kitty at work who is a bit older, it doesn't suit older ladies IMO - lovely nickname though foe a child or younger woman. Personally I'd go with Caitlin and Kitty as a nickname

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 22/05/2021 16:56

Love Kitty.

namechangemarch21 · 22/05/2021 16:57

I know someone called Cathy, on her birth cert, who has forever had trouble with people assuming her 'full' name must be Catherine and using it on plane bookings, for work emails etc. So I think Caitlin is probably 'easiest' in that its a full name.

I really like Kitty though, but do think it is probably becoming a bit more popular in a granny chic way. And Katy is nice - though I prefer Katie - but you may find she ends up called Kate as she's older so you have to think what you'd feel about that.

I think 'Caitlin' is probably the safest choice, but my personal favourite is Kitty.

PetuniaPot · 22/05/2021 17:02

But Caitlin can be pronounced very differently from Kate-lyn in my experience.🤷it's not clear cut.

Mumdiva99 · 22/05/2021 17:05

I love Kitty. It would be unusual enough there won't be loads of others with the same name. Caitlyn is quite popular already.

DalPalak · 22/05/2021 17:23

Caitlin is the best. Katy/Katie are very boring and Kitty is just a bit silly - at least to my ears. Caitlin is sweet and much more uncommon these days.

Palmtreesandoceanbreeze · 22/05/2021 18:29

Thank you all. I'm pleasantly surprised at the positive comments about Caitlin. I like the idea that you could use nickname Katy with Caitlin.
Still on the fence with Kitty. Do quite like Kitty Violet. So any more comments or opinions welcomed.

Of your choices l prefer Kitty. Katie/Katy does seem a bit dated, probably as I went to school with a few. Caitlin is spoiled a bit for me by Caitlin Jenner. Maybe Catrin, Catriona or just Kate?

RuthW · 22/05/2021 18:32

Caitlyn is by far the best as a full name.

Beamur · 22/05/2021 18:38

Katy is a classic name. I love Kitty too, although I think for these people will assume they are diminutives.
I'm less keen on Caitlyn personally. It's one of those names you will always have to spell out because of the various ways it could be spelt.

You could also use Kitty as a nickname for Caitlin.

I think all three names are nice. Caitlin and Kitty are my favourites.

ILoveStickers · 22/05/2021 18:42

If it were me, I think I'd prefer to be called Caitlin, with a possible nickname of Kate/Katy.

Kitty could be hard to wear as a full name - it's hard to see it suiting someone who's not little and delicate. Katy is much easier to wear.

ImInStealthMode · 22/05/2021 18:44

Katy/Katie won't necessarily become Kate with age. I know 3 Katie's in their 40s who are still Katie.

42isthemeaning · 22/05/2021 18:46

I like Katy. I know several Caitlins. Kitty will always be my childhood cat.

KibeththeWalker · 22/05/2021 18:46

Personally I would go Katharine/ Catherine or Catriona/ Katerina with Katy/ Kate/ Kitty as a known name.

I like Caitlin, but it sounds a bit dated to my ears.

FolkSongSweet · 22/05/2021 18:52

I like Katy and Kitty but I’d use those or else Catherine over Caitlin. It drives me mad seeing people pronounce this as “Kate-Lyn” - it’s an Irish name that should be pronounced catchleen/kotchleen. I know that the mistake has become so popular it’s become a name in its own right, but it just grates on me so much and I wouldn’t want to call my child something derived from an error.

cariadlet · 22/05/2021 18:54

I love Caitlin, Katie, Katy and Kate as given names.

I like Kitty but as a nickname for one of the others (or as a nickname for Kathryn, Katherine, Catherine or Cathryn).

BramStoker · 22/05/2021 19:00

I like Katy best of your options but prefer Kate

I know plenty of Kate/Katie/Katy who are age 15+ but not heard any young ones. It would sound refreshing amongst all the Isla/ Eve/Ella/Ava etc

I'm less keen on Caitlin but there is nothing wrong with it

Hoowhoowho · 22/05/2021 19:02

I like Katy, that spelling only and I think it is a stand-alone name

I like Caitlin but I’d hesitate on whether you pronounced it Kate lyn or ‘properly’. Personally I prefer a variant spelling Caitlyn, Katelyn etc as Caitlin is NOT pronounced Kate Lyn and it makes it clear.

Kitty I like but only as a short form. It’s a name that really needs a long form imo
