Quirky or classic?

I'm looking for reactions to the names Daphne and Rosanna.

My husband and entourage are keen on Daphne but I can't help hearing daft knee... It does go well with our surname and I do find it quite charming though.

I like Rosanna but my husband says it's a gypsy name. I think it's strong and feminine though...

I like them both

Antiqueanniesmagiclanternshow · 21/05/2021 21:51

Rosanna is better than Daphne

IslandLulu · 21/05/2021 21:52

Both nice names. Rosanna is really lovely.

Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo · 21/05/2021 21:52

I like Rosanna but dislike Daphne for the same reason as you!

DramaAlpaca · 21/05/2021 21:52

I absolutely love both of them.

Chilldonaldchill · 21/05/2021 21:53

I prefer Daphne to Rosanna I think.
Rosanna doesn't seem strong to me but a bit dippy.
But if you don't like each other's names then maybe try and think of a compromise name rather than choosing one of these?

CosyAcorn · 21/05/2021 21:53

I love them both

LittleDoritt · 21/05/2021 21:53

Classic and quirky both. I like them.

FindingMeno · 21/05/2021 21:56

I love Rosanna, and it also gives a Rose/ Rosie/ Anna variation.

Thinkaboutthings · 21/05/2021 22:03

Daphne is awful. Rosanna is better although I prefer Roseanne.

lavenderleopards · 21/05/2021 22:04

Daphne is gorgeous! Beautiful, classic, underused name.

bringbackfonzi · 21/05/2021 22:04

I think they're both nice, prefer Daphne though.

CandyFIosss · 21/05/2021 22:04

Rosanna is beautiful, don’t like daphne

MsTSwift · 21/05/2021 22:05

Daphne was not a good character in Mallory Towers only use of the name I’m aware of 😁

daisypond · 21/05/2021 22:05

I like both a lot - but they do have different vibes.

Undersnatch · 21/05/2021 22:06

I love Daphne! Sorry I find Roseanna a bit dull.

Spanglebangle · 21/05/2021 22:07

You have to think about nicknames too. Even if you insist on full name when they get to school it will get abreviated. So, Rosie, Annie, daffy, daf etc.

LoveSleeping · 21/05/2021 22:08

Prefer Rosanna.

Daphne far too old lady for me I'm afraid!

Lollypop4 · 21/05/2021 22:08

Not keen on either but would choose Rosanna, Lots of NN.

timeforanother1 · 21/05/2021 22:09

Absolutely love Rosanna!

Don't like other name at all.

Notashandyta · 21/05/2021 22:10

I totally love daphne

LimaFoxtrotCharlie · 21/05/2021 22:12

No, it won’t automatically be abbreviated. I know many Jonathans, Elizabeths, Victorias, Catherines etc who have never been known by an abbreviated version of their name
irresistibleoverwhelm · 21/05/2021 22:13

I prefer Daphne and think it’s probably about to have a Renaissance (Bridgerton?) It’s definitely more classic. I don’t like Rosanna, sorry. Even with the a it makes me think of Roseanne Barr.

Have you thought about something else that’s in a similar style? Rosamond, Rosalind? Phoebe?

SilverOtter · 21/05/2021 22:13

I think they're both lovely. On balance I think I ever so slightly prefer Daphne.

Hughbert · 21/05/2021 22:16

As actual part Romany, there are no Rosannas in our family tree. I like Daphne, but it is a bit marmite.
