Quirky or classic?

I'm looking for reactions to the names Daphne and Rosanna.

My husband and entourage are keen on Daphne but I can't help hearing daft knee... It does go well with our surname and I do find it quite charming though.

I like Rosanna but my husband says it's a gypsy name. I think it's strong and feminine though...

Daphne is imo an ugly name - like Tracey or Barbara (sorry to those I offend)

stellarfox · 21/05/2021 22:22

I like Daphne!

Prefer Rose to Rosanna

fruitbrewhaha · 21/05/2021 22:22

How about Delphine?

Calamaribabe · 21/05/2021 22:23

Daphne is a bit Scooby-Doo.

Rosanna reminds me of Roseanne.

Butterflyfox · 21/05/2021 22:24

I have a Rosanna in my family A lot of nickname options so she will find one that she likes. The brilliant combination of being unusual without being pretentious or ridiculous Love it.

partyatthepalace · 21/05/2021 22:29

Rosanna is lovely, also like the Rosanagh spelling. Rosaria is an option too.

Daphne makes me think of Daffy Duck, but Bridgerton might throw it up the charts.

Crowsaregreat · 21/05/2021 22:35

Rosalie or Rosina?

HairyToity · 21/05/2021 22:39

I consider Rosanna a classic name.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 21/05/2021 22:44

Rosanna is a good, strong name for the birth certificate but I'd probably call her Rosie on a day to day basis. Like it!!

Daphane just reminds me of the character from neighbours in the 1980's. Or the Mallory Towers. Its a weak name and I personally dislike it.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 21/05/2021 22:45

@fruitbrewhaha

How about Delphine?
Like Delphine Donkey from Peppa Pig?
SEE123 · 21/05/2021 22:46

Love Daphne!

Tillygetsit · 21/05/2021 22:48

I wanted dd1 to be Rosanna. Exh didn't. We had Susannah instead. That may be an option?

tuliplily · 21/05/2021 22:51

I think they're both awful. Sorry!

Thisisjaaam · 21/05/2021 23:00

I love both. Can’t go wrong there OP. Beautiful

Bumzoo · 21/05/2021 23:05

Can't get past Dafty.

Rosanna isn't one I'd pick either.

RuthW · 21/05/2021 23:05

Both lovely

Lemonlemon88 · 21/05/2021 23:08

I prefer Rosanna and I know a lovely one, she normally goes by Rosie.

Vursayles · 21/05/2021 23:18

Rosanna is lovely, really beautiful and underused. Nickname could be lots of things, it’s versatile.

Not keen on Daphne at all as it reminds me of Daphnia the water fleas we studied at uni. And one of the Golden Girls I think. It’s just a bit....too much.

StyleAndLasers · 21/05/2021 23:22

I love them both. Was just thinking how much I liked the name Daphne yesterday.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 21/05/2021 23:41

@HairyToity

I consider Rosanna a classic name.
I love classic names and whilst Rosanna was not one I'd thought of for my dd's it would totally be on my list if I were to have another girl!
Giraffedance · 22/05/2021 00:17

I love Daphne - it's beautiful. It was on my list but Iive not far from Manchester, where it would sound awful...

Not keen on Rosanna. Reminds me of the TV programme Roseanne. I love Rosa and Rosalie though, and Rose is lovely too.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 22/05/2021 02:29

Rosanna is lovely. I wouldn't say its a true classic as it doesn't feel quite well used historically enough to me (not in the same way Rose, Anna or perhaps Susannah are imo) - but its not super quirky either and has a beautiful lyrical sound. It doesn't give me any gypsy vibes either personally? (Like pp I have Romany heritage too).

Never been keen on Daphne - I think it could be the "new" Penelope, but I don't like the "Daf" (daft) sound. Perhaps Xanthe or Selene?

AnyaMoondial · 22/05/2021 05:14

Both brilliant names.

TatianaBis · 22/05/2021 06:28

Don’t like Daphne, prefer Rosanna.

SavannahLands · 22/05/2021 06:36

I prefare Rosanna, it’s a lovely name, lm not keen on Daphne, isn’t the true name meaning of this name a type of water insect? I can remember my Mum buying a small tub of these dried to feed to our Goldfish!
