I'm in desperate search for a first name, since I'm running out of time and ideas. Middle name is Edward, surname starts with H. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks.

I think most of the "classics" work with Edward (apart from anything ending with "ed")

What do you like? What have you discounted? Hard to suggest things without knowing that. Given Edward’s a classic I’m assuming that’s what you like? These are a few less common classics

Edward is a classic, but I'm open to modern names as well. In general not so keen of names being shortened to NN, that's why I'm afraid to use Edward (Eddie, Teddy) as a first name. Neither would I like names which makes it easy for other kids to bully him.

So you want a modern name that can't be shortened?
In my experience, people with short names still get nn or even their shortened and you'll never avoid that once he goes to school.

Names will almost always be shortened and if they can’t be shortened they’ll be lengthened.

Nicknames are fine and I understand you can shorten every name. But I would like a name which isn't shorten all the time.

If you aren't keen on nicknames, I'd stick with something shortish already - Adam, Hugh, Owen, Evan, Felix, Leo, Max, Marcus, Jack, Luke, Isaac, Aaron, Dylan, Rufus etc (obviously these could have nn's but they aren't as likely - not like Joe, Sam, Dan, Ben, Tom, Alex etc which are obvious shortenings for their full versions).

daisypond · 20/05/2021 21:16

Guy - can’t really shorten or lengthen it. Though I did know one that had it lengthened to Guido.

Sausagedogmom · 20/05/2021 22:25

Ahhh.. I saw some great names. Obviously for personal reasons not keen all of them (e.g. had a creepy classmate named Toby)
Atm I do favor
Milo Edward
Jasper Edward
Felix Edward

😊

I would avoid names starting with M unless you don't mind the initials spelling 'meh'.
