Sadie or Cleo

Can't believe I'm questioning what thought was our chosen name again (Cleo) almost at due date and having another wobble. Out of interest do you prefer Sadie or Cleo?

Cleo would be my pick of the two- has a cool vibe and feels less well used. Sadie blends more into the popular retro/cute nickname territory for me (Nancy, Edie, Marnie etc).

Love both!

Rainbowqueeen · 20/05/2021 04:38

Cleo

Sadie just makes me think of the song Sadie the cleaning lady

Peachbubble · 20/05/2021 06:58

Cleo 100%

partyatthepalace · 20/05/2021 07:54

Cleo for sure - fabulous name.

Sadie is a nn for Sarah, too insubstantial and faddy as a full name.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 20/05/2021 07:59

I prefer Sadie

Marcipex · 20/05/2021 08:03

Cleo, lovely and unusual without being odd.

Sadie is okay but does begin with Sad.

CandyLeBonBon · 20/05/2021 08:04

Haha I have a dog and a child named for each of those!!

DotDotDotDotDot · 20/05/2021 09:16

I really like both of these girls names, nice choices. I think it’s always good to have at least 2 possibilities, when you meet her you’ll know which one she is. Good luck.

countrybum · 20/05/2021 09:59

Sadie the cleaning lady 🤭 and I'm going to take a wild guess that your dog is named cleo 😂 there does seem to be some pet associations but it hasn't really put me off. Yet haha

Much prefer Sadie.
Cleo is feline to me and it's just not to my taste.

Edenember · 20/05/2021 10:18

Cleo

Jeschara · 20/05/2021 11:04

Cleo. Lovely name.

Turquoisa80 · 20/05/2021 11:06

I like Sadie.. Cleo makes me think of cats

emmathedilemma · 20/05/2021 11:09

Sadie
Cleo makes me think of cars even though the spelling is different!

TheDaydreamBelievers · 20/05/2021 11:14

I like both but prefer Cleo!

lottiegarbanzo · 20/05/2021 11:15

I love Cleo

Sadie is a nn and sounds sour to my ear. I don't like the sad and sadism associations (visually and aurally).

If I was looking for lovely alternatives to Cleo, I'd think of Clarice and Suki (which is probably also a nn, I don't know but it's silky smooth, a bit feline and a beautiful sound).

Fauvist · 20/05/2021 11:35

Cleo makes me think Renault, though it is a lovely name. I would go with Sadie.

bagsofshite · 20/05/2021 11:40

Sadie

OopsUp · 20/05/2021 11:40

Like Cleo but wouldn't use it because it makes me think of cars.

Love Sadie and it was list.

Bibidy · 20/05/2021 11:42

I would go Sadie. Cleo is lovely but has definitely picked up in popularity lately so you might find she is one of a few Cleo's in her year at school (if that bothers you).

SteveArnottsCodeine · 20/05/2021 11:46

Cleo makes me think of cats and Cleopatra the Egyptian Queen. Oh and 90s girl band Cleopatra. Go with Sadie.

TempsPerdu · 20/05/2021 11:49

Cleo - lovely and feels more substantial.

We shortlisted it for DD but like others were ultimately put off by the Renault thing (especially as I personally prefer the Clio spelling!) It seems to be better used now though so probably less of an issue.

StevieNix · 20/05/2021 11:51

Love both and they’re both on my list!
I think Cleo slightly wins in my opinion though

Cbeebiesrehab · 20/05/2021 11:52

100% Cleo. Lovely, unusual, short, easy for her to learn to write :)

Really dislike Sadie, sounds very harsh and brassy to me, although I’m sure I’m in the minority.
