Modern sounding Muslim baby boy names please :)

Hi all,

I’ve just found out I’m having a baby boy, so I’d love some more modern sounding baby names suggestions. The reason I say modern is my family are white British so are very hostile to anything ‘too exotic’ (for want of a better phrase). My hubby’s family is quite large so a lot of names have been taken:

Already gone is zakariya, ali, Harris, kamran, zaid, zayn, zayyan, isa, musa (and about a million others)

So far we like: Deen, Aydin /Aiden and Rayan.

Any other suggestions? We already have girl named Ayah XX

Not necessarily intolerant. GF hummmmed and hawed at a suggested religious name for DS (and he was a very religious man). He thought it was not appropriate - not only because I’m not Muslim and we live in the U.K. (with DHs surname). And all his kids had very classic names too.

Laith and Zachariah are my top choices, in similar circumstances.

ClaudiaAndTheCauldron · 17/05/2021 09:10

Ramsey?

Sleeplessemma · 17/05/2021 09:20

@Chunkymenrock, I appreciate the suggestion but it’s important that our children have Muslim names with a good meaning. Islamically you can give your child any name as long as it has a good meaning that doesn’t related to another religion I.e. Christian. But for us, we want a Muslim name x

@Zarene, zakkariya has already been taken unfortunately but it’s a lovely name!

I like Laith though xx

I'm in the ME, & a lot of parents choose names that are either straightforward for English speakers to pronounce, or translate easily to English versions, as they expect their dc to study in the U.K./US.

Popular boy choices:
Adam/Adham
Youssef (nn Joe)
Ibrahim
Omar
Sherif

Or could you pick an English name from your family & go for an equivalent meaning?

Eg Luke ---> Noor (both mean light)?

Shmithecat2 · 17/05/2021 09:25

Faraz is lovely. Also Adham.

Ooh, Omar is a great shout, beautiful name!

Saif?

Sleeplessemma · 17/05/2021 12:32

@CorvusPurpureus, I think I’d get confused with an English and Muslim name lol, that’s why we’d like something that ticks both boxes.

Adam would be a great choice, but I’ve known a few who I didn’t like so they’ve spoiled the name for me.

Xx

Firas

FedNlanders · 17/05/2021 12:51

Sofien?

Sharioo · 17/05/2021 13:04

Deen and Aiden are perfect. We picked easy to spell / pronounce names for our list Asif, Amir, Zahid, Zayn, Imran but we also gave English middle names. Loved Riaz but PIL’s couldn’t / wouldn’t pronounce it. Hard to please everyone and it has to suit the baby too.

Isaac

Easy for both families!

Sleeplessemma · 17/05/2021 15:02

@wawawawawa thank you for the ideas! I love Tobias but I’m not sure it’s a Muslim name. I’ve also read that Benyamin isn’t a permissible name.

@TuesdayRuby isn’t the Muslim version ishaq? X

@Sleeplessemma I think it’s one of those names where either version works. I know a little Isaac in a Muslim family. If you like it you could always run it past your in-laws, see if it makes the cut! Grin

Puntastic · 17/05/2021 15:15

Benjamin should be permissible I think- I've definitely known Muslim Benjamins.

Robiul (could shorten to Robbie)?

Normaigai · 17/05/2021 15:19

Sami?

wishing3 · 17/05/2021 15:23

Adult? Or sure if that’s modern sounding or not!

wishing3 · 17/05/2021 15:23

Gah-ADIL

frazzledasarock · 17/05/2021 15:25

Benjamin would be Binyamin for the Muslim version, he was Yusuf (as) little brother.

Sleeplessemma · 17/05/2021 15:31

@TuesdayRuby don’t think I’ll run it pass the in laws lol, they don’t even know yet and it will be controlling to the max. Same with my family. Talk about a rock and a hard place! Lol
