For a boy?
Is it too girly or nicknamey? What is your general
Opinion?

How about Franklin with the NN Frankie ?

Iamstrugglingtopick · 14/05/2021 19:49

No I am not fond of Franklin.

I don’t think frankie is girly. Franklin is awful

JaneExotic · 14/05/2021 20:10

I love Frank. With Frankie as a nn. But I think Frankie might be a bit infantilising on an adult.

Killahangilion · 14/05/2021 20:11

I like it but then it’s the name of my favourite chicken. (Obviously she’s a girl) 🥰

RuthW · 14/05/2021 21:05

Awful. Sorry.

Francis (Frankie is fine) or Francesca

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 14/05/2021 21:07

Frankie as a given name sounds quite cutesy to me - possibly because of the nn factor. I think it does also err slightly on the feminine side to me too.

Sawyersfishbiscuits · 14/05/2021 21:12

I know a little rufty tufty boy called Frankie. His name really suits him.

DramaAlpaca · 14/05/2021 21:13

I dislike this name intensely, for both boys and girls. It's too cutesy for a boy and very harsh on a girl.

daisypond · 14/05/2021 21:14

I think it’s too nicknamey and cutesy as a proper name.

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 14/05/2021 21:15

The only Frankie I know is a woman. Short for Francesca I believe.

Twizbe · 14/05/2021 21:16

Francis nn Frank(ie)

I think of Frankie as a girls name, but that is because it's my mum's name

BramStoker · 14/05/2021 21:16

I like it for a boy but would put Frank or Francis on the birth certificate

Apparentlystillchilled · 14/05/2021 21:18

My brother was Frankie as a little boy but Frank as an adult.

partyatthepalace · 14/05/2021 21:22

Did you post this previously??

Anyway yes it is too nicknamey - needs Francis or Franklin on the birth certificate

BiBabbles · 14/05/2021 21:32

I don't think it's girly. I know far more male Frankies than female.

I do agree for me that it would be too diminutive to use as a full name. I like Franklin as it's a family name for me, and also Franco & Francesco. Francis can be nice (Francisco would be pushing it for me), though the only one I know only went by Frank, his strong dislike has made me wary of recommending it.

CorianderBee · 15/05/2021 21:28

Not a fan. Just makes me think about Frankie & Bennies

Cbeebiesrehab · 16/05/2021 10:44

Don’t think it’s girly at all. To me it’s very ‘of the moment’ when it comes to boys names, at the last baby group I went to every boy bar my son had an ie name (Alfie, Archie, Herbie, Albie, Freddie, Henry-same sound-) so I think I would automatically assume Frankie was a boy. I actually like it, it’s probably my favourite ie boys name!

Violetlavenders · 16/05/2021 14:42

Very girly. And very cutesy and twee.

Short for Francesca

RightOnTheEdge · 16/05/2021 14:45

I really like it. I know two Frankies one a girl and one a boy. The both suit their name.
They are Francesca and Francis though but their long names are never used.

finallychangedmyusername · 16/05/2021 18:15

As a nickname for Francis/Frank/Franklin or Frances/Francesca it's ok. I'd expect a Frankie to be male although it is quite unisex IMO.
