Awful.

Reinventinganna · 09/05/2021 15:07

I like it

ZenNudist · 09/05/2021 15:07

I like it. In the same way I like Maverick. It's a very now name. Guess it will date. I do love David Duchovny so that's why I like it.

floridapalmtree · 09/05/2021 15:17

Love it.

MrsFin · 09/05/2021 15:19

Your surname isn't Hunter is it? Grin

I think Fox is a great nick name, but put something else on the birth certificate.

weekend2021 · 09/05/2021 15:23

It’s a (massive) no from me

Happycat1212 · 09/05/2021 15:50

I like it, I considered it with my son

DramaAlpaca · 09/05/2021 15:54

Not for me. It's a bit attention seeking.

partyatthepalace · 09/05/2021 23:11

Faddy and try hard.

Likely to grow up to be a slime ball.

sadperson16 · 10/05/2021 09:51

Be interesting if combined with the surname Fox possibly?

Tal45 · 10/05/2021 10:05

Awful as a first name, much better as a middle name.

PurePeppermint · 10/05/2021 10:10

DD has a 4 year old Fox in her class. He gets called Foxy by his friends!

WillowintheUK · 10/05/2021 10:21

Please don’t do this to your child.

tentosix · 10/05/2021 10:23

No.

BreakfastOfWaffles · 10/05/2021 10:29

Definitely better as a middle name.

Warrickdaviesasplates · 10/05/2021 10:41

I do like it and think you should go for it if it's a name you love. To my ear it's a very welcome change from all the Archies, Alfie's, Teddy's and Freddie's that seem so popular.

However, if part of the reason you like it is that you want an unusual name I would be prepared to find that it's more popular than you think. I do know a couple of Foxs between the ages of 4 and 1. Nature and animal names do seem to be having quite a moment so it may be a name that gives away their age as they get older.

I wouldn't be put off by people saying "what about when they're older" and such, as names have changed a lot and by the time they're old enough to have Fox Smith on their CV or be attending meetings with C.E.O's or whatever it probably won't be an unusual name anyway.

SeanChailleach · 10/05/2021 10:42

I like unusual names and when I meet someone with a nature/ animal name I definitely don't think their parents were trying hard. I usually just need to remember who is who and be able to yell their name across a noisy sports hall and have the right child answer. So unusual is fab. However:
"Fox" shouted loudly could be misinterpreted. So, not great.
The meaning of the word can be "to deceive" (is that how the fox got its name?). So, not great.
I absolutely love foxes, but they are sneaky thieves who dig incredible tunnels to break into the chickens who they scare the life out of and gobble up. So... not really admirable characters.

SelkieBe · 10/05/2021 10:43

No.

I like Rex though

KillerFlamingo · 10/05/2021 10:45

I'd use it, with the middle name Sake Grin

Silly

StateOfTheUterus · 10/05/2021 15:02

There are two Foxes in my DD class at school. Except one of them is spelled Phox.

I like to imagine that Fox’s parents are LIVID that they didn’t think of using the Ph spelling 😂

JamCrackers · 10/05/2021 15:04

It’s cringey. ‘Ooh...you fox!’ ‘He’s a bit of a silver Fox’ etc.

Definite no. See also Bear, Wolf.

LittleTiger007 · 10/05/2021 15:51

Fox Mulder comes to mind. (.. so it is a name those who say it isn’t)
If you ask mumsnet you will always get some people angrily saying that you can’t call your child so and so. If you love it then use the name. Others will get used to it and if they love your child then they will learn to love his name.

Happycat1212 · 10/05/2021 15:55

Phox 😬
