Fox for a boy? Thoughts?

I don't like it I'm afraid. Sounds too hipster/trying to be unique etc.

Blueskytoday06 · 09/05/2021 12:22

It's cute but it's not a name you can actually use.

SpeedRunParent · 09/05/2021 12:23

I really think you need to imagine what is going to be like to be saddled with a 'trendy' 'unique' name like that.
I know a Striker, an Ace and a Fox and people just roll their eyes when they hear the names. And they are children, imagine having to introduce yourself with one of those names at a business Ed's meeting, people will struggle to take them seriously.

lulugee · 09/05/2021 12:25

Really really stupid. Don't ruin your sons life chances with this name please.

iklboo · 09/05/2021 12:34

Use it as a nickname if you like it, rather than a given name.

Rainbowqueeen · 09/05/2021 12:36

Not my taste

EducatingArti · 09/05/2021 12:38

I'm assuming your surname isn't Hunter

Rhayader · 09/05/2021 12:41

I know a boy called Fox. Works well for him.

CorianderBee · 09/05/2021 12:49

Wolfgang? At least it's a name

EllieQ · 09/05/2021 12:55

Fox Mulder.

I did meet one baby called Fox at baby groups, but haven’t met another since. It does come across as hipster/ trying hard to be unique to me, but I suppose it depends where you live - are those sort of names quite popular in your area?

percheron67 · 09/05/2021 12:57

Fox?? How about Stag, Badger, Mole and Toad?! These are all characters in Farthing Wood (not children)>

Too much potential for deliberate mispronunciation by stupid teenage classmates.

Synchrony · 09/05/2021 13:33

I wouldn't be surprised to meet a baby Fox, but personally I hate it because it sounds too much like a swear word.

Fixitup2 · 09/05/2021 13:34

I like it

hedgehogger1 · 09/05/2021 13:39

Only if your surname is Mulder

daisypond · 09/05/2021 13:43

As a middle name it’s fine. I know one - in his late 20s now.

FictionalCharacter · 09/05/2021 14:00

Please don’t. Kids at school will call him Fux.

KingPong · 09/05/2021 14:04

I know a Bear and used to know a Wolfie. I like Fox, my favourite of all the animal names trend.
Surely if people suggest Robin and Wren as names, Fox isn’t ‘ridiculous’.

Violetlavenders · 09/05/2021 14:24

It’s not a name, so no.

Names evolve and new ones are 'added' constantly. I know a Tiger and a Wolf for example.

I think Fox is quite cool actually.

KingPong · 09/05/2021 14:37

@Violetlavenders You’ve just reminded me that I also know a Tyger.

Divebar2021 · 09/05/2021 14:43

I like it. Unless you call your child Adolf or something on a par you will not be ruining your child’s life. Even if it is beloved of hipsters ( so what??) all that will happen is there will probably be more of them around. For some reason it’s OK if it’s Oliver or Joshua etc which qualifies as a “ real” name and is therefore judged appropriate.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 09/05/2021 14:44

Cute sound but very brave (so I don't think I could do it personally, in case my son hated that fact it was so unusual). Maybe you could put something more "everyday" on the BC - like Felix or even Freddie/Frederick but call him Fox as a nn?

ThatIsMyPotato · 09/05/2021 14:45

I like it but I'm an x-files fan so no.

BigusBumus · 09/05/2021 14:50

I know of an 18 year old called Henry with Fox as his middle name as his mum loved the name so much but daren't use it for the first name. Quite cool and acceptable as a middle name I think.
