Maxwell or Maximilian?

I like just Max but partner is insisting the baby will need a full proper name if it’s a boy.

Or any other variations of Max! I really like Maxim but the dirty mag associations

I think Max can definitely stand as a name on its own. However if you want a longer version for the bc I’d go for Maxwell, all the others just seem a bit much to me. Good luck.

Macsen is the Welsh version, often abbreviated to Max. I think it's really nice.

I love Maxim and I know a teenage one (named after the Rebecca character) - I don't think he's had any issues with the lad mag reference (maybe it's passé now?).

But anyway of the two Maximilian is much nicer imo - classic and stylish but if he feels it's too much he can still go by simple Max day to day (the same way similar Sebastian's sometimes go by Seb).

Maxwell is okay, but a bit "surname trendy" (fits in with all the Mason's, Jackson's, Finley's etc) .

Maxim for a boy
Maxine for a girl
Max as nn

Maxim, to me, means Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca, which is my favourite book, so I'd go for that. Not Maxwell, as in Robert.

I prefer Maximilian as Maxwell seems a bit more surnamey.I've known one of each both and they're both nice kids, nice names. Maxim in Rebecca is shorterned from Maximilian iirc

Max is a name on its own. I like neither Maximilian nor Maxwell but love Max.

My son who is now 23 is a Maximillian, prefer it to Maxwell, Max for short x

Maxwell is a surname and makes me think of Robert and Ghislaine Maxwell (and yes I know it wasn’t Robert’s birth name).

Max is also fine on its own though.

DS 24 is Maximilian, always known as Max.

Maxim is a bit slimey, Maxwell makes me think of cheap coffee and is a bit naff - Maximus is quite nice though

Maxwell reminds me of the RnB singer.

Maximilian is DH favourite boys name, neither of our DS’ are named Maximilian, as we had a dog in the family called Max.
