Is Zac ever short for Isaac?

Opinions please.

Really love Zac for a boy. Also like both Isaac and Zachary/Zacharias/Zachariah.

Would Zac work as a nn for Isaac or would it be better to go with a name that starts with Zac.

Imo it works fine.

MadMadMadamMim · 06/05/2021 19:07

You can give your own child whatever nickname you like, but I'd assume if I heard someone calling their child Zac that it was short for Zachary or Zachariah.

MackenCheese · 06/05/2021 19:11

Yes, I know an Isaac who is called Zac

EShellstrop · 06/05/2021 19:13

Seems logical to me, but I'm a huge fan of long legal names for children that allow for a variety of nicknames. Go for it.

Camandmitch · 06/05/2021 20:31

I know an Isaak/zak

pourmeanotherglass · 06/05/2021 20:34

DD knows a Zac that is Isaac

Nancylovesthecock · 06/05/2021 21:34

Not in my house. My Isaac is Isaac or Ike for short.

Allthereindeersaregirls · 06/05/2021 21:37

I know two Zac's, both are Isaacs. The Zacharys I know go by their full name

MummytoCSJH · 06/05/2021 21:45

Yes, I know an Issac called Zac!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 06/05/2021 22:09

It's not quite as instinctual as Zachary imo. I wouldn't blink at an Zac for Isaac, but I think you'll need to introduce him as that from day 1 (like using Xander for Alexander instead of Alex for example).

HairyToity · 06/05/2021 22:13

My friends son is called Zac. It's not short for anything.

lemonsyellow · 06/05/2021 22:14

Yes, it’s fine. I know an Isaac /Zac too.

ALevelhelp · 06/05/2021 22:19

I've never known one and have worked in early years forever! However I like it, so wouldn't bat an eyelid if a little one started with that name/nickname combo

Violetlavenders · 06/05/2021 22:20

Isn't Isaac pronounced EYE suc ?

Zac is a natural short form for Zachary or Zacharias imo

RachelRaven · 06/05/2021 22:21

I also know a Zac who is is Isaac.

BikeRunSki · 06/05/2021 22:23

I also know some Isaacs know as Zac

LittleTiger007 · 06/05/2021 22:32

I taught one Isaac who was known as Zak. I also have two friends who have had babies (in the past decade) who have an Isaac and an Isaak both known as Zak.
So that’s a definite ‘yes’ to your question.

Tillygetsit · 06/05/2021 22:39

I've always pronounced Isaac as Eye-zac so Zac seems fine. Our family Isaac is called Izey by his dm. Makes me cringe!

Ellmau · 06/05/2021 22:51

You CAN use it for anything, but this isn't a natural shortening bc Isaac isn't pronounced I_ZAK, it's I'zuhk.

I would pick Zachary.

Joolsin · 06/05/2021 22:54

I know two Isaacs who go by Zak/Zac, respectively.

Violetlavenders · 07/05/2021 10:53

Why choose Isaac (I'zuhk) which is so short and easy to say, and then call him Zac?! I'd assume that was short for Zachary

Mammymar · 07/05/2021 14:33

My nephew is Isaac and nn is Zac

Nancylovesthecock · 07/05/2021 19:02

I agree. Its why I chose Isaac as people are less likely to try to shorten it. I also use my preferred ed shortening of Ike as I'm trying to stop his friends calling his zac. Which I really don't like. (sorry op)
