Definitely Selena. Selene reminds me of Celine Dion - different spelling, but same sound.

Starstruck2021 · 04/05/2021 13:59

Never heard of Selene but I know a Celine. I prefer Selena but not keen on either sorry.

Ellmau · 04/05/2021 16:59

Selene, as the goddess of the moon. Feels more classic but also more unusual.

Selena seems like a modern variant of Selina to me.

AhaShakeHeartbreak12 · 04/05/2021 17:00

I love Selena

Chitaufree · 04/05/2021 18:18

Selene seems a lot classier

ofwarren · 04/05/2021 18:21

Selena

Love this name, we are also considering it!

Springbankholiday · 04/05/2021 19:03

I like the spelling Celina and then after that Selena.

olympicsrock · 04/05/2021 19:04

Celine or Selina are more common spellings . Pronounced differently.

ShoppingPrecinctPrincess · 04/05/2021 19:09

Celine reminds me of the luxury fashion brand rather than Ms Dion. I think it sounds elegant. Therefore of your two I vote for Selene.

partyatthepalace · 04/05/2021 19:09

I slightly prefer Selene - presuming you are saying it Sell-ee-nee But if you mean like Celine Dion then deffo preferSelena, which is a v nice name

ShoppingPrecinctPrincess · 04/05/2021 19:10

Selena reminds me of Selena Gomez.

It’s not the same sound... it’s Greek, the second and third e’s are pronounced like the e’s in Phoebe.

And the Latin American singer who was murdered in the 90s.

I didn't know this. So a bit like the 'solini' bit of Mussolini?

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 04/05/2021 23:53

I love both Selene and Selena for different reasons.

Selene feels elegant, classical and Goddess- like, BUT it will get pronounced as Seh -leen in most English speaking countries (rather than the 3 syllable Greek pronunciation). I'd be okay with that as I like the 2 syllable pronunciation too - but you'd have to be happy with it (I don't think a lifetime of trying to correct people is worth the hassle).

Selena is exotic sounding, beautiful and has a bit of a slinky/sexy feel to me. It's probably better known worldwide since it's well used in the US and some Hispanic countries and is the name of a couple of famous singers - so you are less likely to have pronunciation or even spelling issues (although I suppose you could get Selina).

VenusClapTrap · 05/05/2021 15:42

Selene. Very elegant.

Limegreens · 05/05/2021 20:13
