Initials H.R.G

It's become a thing in my family that the first born child is given the initials H.R.G (2 middle names). My great-grandad and Grandad have the same 3 names. My mum was given the same initials as was my brother. My brother can't have children so if I have children I'd like to continue to tradition and use the same initials. My mum goes by her first middle name "Ruth" and my brother goes by a shortening of his first middle "Richie"

If you were forced to name your child using those initials, but they can go by any of the names or shortening of any, what would you name your child? Boys and girls.

Don’t name them something intending to use their middle name. If you can’t find a name you like beginning with H, don’t do it.

ouchyouchyow · 04/05/2021 09:32

Seems ridiculous. Like a silly game but it's somebody's name we are talking about

Sorry.

Just pick names you like

Just wanted to add... I have no names at all for boys on my list beginning with an H or an R, and the G names on my list for girls didn’t fit with the others so I picked Grace instead. If you’re having a similar experience (picking something that fits this template rather than primarily picking what you love), I’d maybe think again. Of course, if you can find something that fits both bills if this is very important to you, then great.

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 04/05/2021 10:07

Helena Rosemary for a girl. No question. I love it.

Boys are harder, definitely...

Hugo Robin. Hamish Ronan. Harry Robert.

Halina Reverie Geralyn -- struggled a bit with the initials

Hallam/Henric Reuel/Rial/Rhys Garrett/Gratian - a bit mix and match.

In my family, two middle names are common and it's usually , though the order switches sometimes, which is why I'd use Geralyn -- a relative of mine, think she's like a Great Great Aunt, + Gerald my grandfather.

MimiDaisy11 · 04/05/2021 10:18

I really like the name Henrietta but probably would never use it since it could be shortened to "Hen" and that's a word used in Scotland for women.

So not considering that I'd go with:

Henrietta Rowan Gaia (not sure they flow well and couldn't think of G I liked, but just for fun picked this)

wanderedlonelyasacloud · 04/05/2021 10:23

I actually think thats a tough one! I looked on my list of baby names in my notes on my phone (Grin) but actually didnt really have any that start with those letters!

I dont think any of these names flow nicely together but these are names I like:
Harry
Rory
Gideon

Hazel
Rowan (I struggled to think of an R name for a girl tbh)
Georgia

If you wanted something more novel you could go with Harry Ronald George or Hermione Rowena Ginevra Grin

TankGirl97 · 04/05/2021 10:34

They are pretty good initials - lots of name choices!
Henry Rufus George
Hazel Rowena Grace

I agree. You shouldn't be constrained like this when choosing names.

Postern · 04/05/2021 10:46

I think that’s a very silly ‘tradition’. You’re naming a new human being, not engaging in some kind of family branding exercise.

merryhouse · 04/05/2021 10:53

Howard River Gordon
Hannah Rose Gloria

or possibly Galadriel Grin

BigPyjamas · 04/05/2021 10:57

Daft tradition, but if forced I'd go with:

Hamish Robert George

Helena Rose Grace

remember1 · 04/05/2021 10:58

Hollie Robyn Grace
Harris(son) Robert Gregor(y)

nitsandwormsdodger · 04/05/2021 11:07

These forced naming things don't seem fun at all , there would have to be an absolutely fantastic story for me to perpetuate this nonsense, someone has to be the first brave one to break ranks and then every one with breathe sigh of relief and thank you

PaddleBoardingMomma · 04/05/2021 11:22

Hugo Rupert Gregory

Honor Rene Gretchen

Harry Rhys George
Hannah Ruth Grace

AliasGrape · 04/05/2021 11:45

I wouldn’t do it personally (my DD has 2 middle names as we added one in memory of a relative we lost just before she was born - it was done in the emotion of the moment and in a way I’m glad but it also looks a bit much written down, I’m not sure how she’ll feel about having the extra name and there’s something awkward about it all I slightly regret) but if it was the key to saving the world or something I’d go with

Hugo Rowan George

and

Helen Rebecca Grace
(Maybe Hope Rebecca Grace)

And they’d be known as the first name unless they chose otherwise when older.
