I posted before about Anna... some loved (classic), some didn't (dull!)

Thinking about various other options and came across Mara... be interested to hear Mumsnet's opinion!

I love both Mara and Anna

elliemara · 01/05/2021 12:32

I think it's really lovely Smile

Zarinea · 01/05/2021 12:33

I’ve met a little one, and thought it was cute.

Because it’s not well known it does get misheard as Cara/Lara/Tara, but that’s not a problem.

MooseMoose · 01/05/2021 12:34

I really like it. I also love Mira / Meera.

becca3210 · 01/05/2021 12:34

Lovely name

Ellmau · 01/05/2021 12:34

I like it a lot. Also like Anna.

Darnoot1 · 01/05/2021 12:35

Love it. Wanted it but was vetoed.
Anna was also on my list!

crabette · 01/05/2021 12:42

Oooh @Darnoot1 we must have similar taste! Any other good ones on your list you would share? Pleased Mara is getting positive comments!

I don’t really like Mara, sorry - I don’t like that it means bitter. It’s also a kind of demon in Buddhism apparently. I love Anna though!
Maria? Morwenna?

SionnachRua · 01/05/2021 12:58

Gorgeous name, a million times better than Anna!

HotDogHotDiggityDog · 01/05/2021 13:00

Love Mara, it's on my list too! Love Anna too though.

romdowa · 01/05/2021 13:03

My first thoughts is that it means sea in irish but when I looked it up it also means beautiful in Greek. So I'm torn now on if i like it or not 😅😅

Darnoot1 · 01/05/2021 13:07

Honestly I can hardly remember but I do know that I love Julia.

I knew a very cool Giulia which helped. I just think it's so pretty...both to look at and say, plus not very used with this generation of babies.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 01/05/2021 13:09

I like it.

Darnoot1 · 01/05/2021 13:10

Oh I've remembered another ...Serena (nn Nina). Or just Nina!

DramaAlpaca · 01/05/2021 14:17

A mara is a type of South American rodent. It's a no from me.

Mybigbed · 01/05/2021 14:27

I like Lara and Cara but for some reason not as keen on Mara
Marla is nice or even Amara
I think I like Anna more though

AnyaMoondial · 01/05/2021 14:34

I like it.

TownTalkJewels · 01/05/2021 14:53

I am considering it too! But I’m put off by the various different meanings... the demon deity, the South American mammal, and google what it means in Japanese...

If you can get past that, go for it! It is beautiful.

partyatthepalace · 01/05/2021 18:51

Meh, it’s a bit Bla-bla, just blends into all the Cara, Zara, Lara, Taras - they are all very undistinguished

I think something more distinctively a name is better - Stella, Flora, Zelda, Emma, Hannah, Freida, Freya, Honor, Thora, Clara, Clover, Astra, Ada, Hera, Sarah, Martha...

lottiegarbanzo · 01/05/2021 20:53

I like it. Simple and easy to remember and spell but also unusual.

rainbowthoughts · 01/05/2021 20:54

I like it

EssentialHummus · 01/05/2021 20:56

don’t really like Mara, sorry - I don’t like that it means bitter.

This for me too. Much prefer Anna.

DisgruntledPelican · 01/05/2021 20:57

It’s on my girls names list, although mostly because I am a big Star Wars fan and there’s a little connection there. Like PPs have said though, it will be misheard about half the time as there are many -ara names...
