My DH Mr. Stevens and I have been very keen on this name for what feels like decades now. I simply must enquire Mumsnet as that birth certificate needs a name!

I love it’s Mid-century paired down-ness!

Jean and Joan are already getting popular, so Jane will come soon. You are the vanguard.

I've always liked the name Jane, have never met one surprisingly!

Thank you! That’s very kind of you. Star

Jane is one of those names that until recently I never appreciated its beauty and elegance. I think because now it sounds so refreshing. Imagine a little Jane in a class full of Avas Ellas Lilys and Islas.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 01/05/2021 12:03

Plus if you've liked it for decades I think you'll regret not using it. After all who's to say you're going to have another girl.

AnyaMoondial · 01/05/2021 12:04

Yep. Really love Jane.

Very good point. You have all be most kind.

Jane is lovely Smile

MooseMoose · 01/05/2021 13:04

Sorry to go against the grain, but I find it a bit dull, especially when paired with the surname. But then I also feel similarly about lots of other names - Loise, Charlotte, Rebecca, Sarah etc. All perfectly nice names, nothing wrong with them, just not to my taste. If you love the name, go for it.

thecognoscenti · 01/05/2021 13:39

Elegant and classy in a sea of frilly, flouncy Ellies and Ellas and Amelias. Very nice.

ILoveShula · 01/05/2021 14:00

Nice and classic.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 01/05/2021 14:15

Not a fan of trendy nicknames as actual names, though, as it limits options when they're grown up - I assume she'll be the traditional Janemilissamimizabethina on her birth certificate?

Thedogscollar · 01/05/2021 19:02

Lovely name OP sounds good with your surname. You have the option of Jayne nn Jay also. Whatever it sounds lovely with your surname.

MercyBodle · 02/05/2021 09:25

Lovely! I like its understated, old-fashioned (but good) quality.

Enko · 02/05/2021 09:28

I find Jane top of the list for dullness sorry. Its non offensive so if you like it do it.

daisypond · 02/05/2021 09:33

Jane is very classy and quirky too today.

silverribbonxmastree · 02/05/2021 09:37

I've just sent a text to a Jane Stevens then opened Mumsnet and saw this thread first. Spooky!!!

lavieengrenache · 02/05/2021 09:40

An elegant classic in among the throng of cutesy 'ie' and 'a' names. Really like it.

tessiegirl · 02/05/2021 09:44

Sorry but I don't like it either. When I see the name I expect the person to be aged 50 plus...

Edenember · 02/05/2021 10:04

I don’t like it but I also think it is refreshing now. You absolutely must use it if you’ve both loved it forever.

Toddlerteaplease · 02/05/2021 10:07

My middle name is Jane.

Yika · 02/05/2021 12:48

Great name. Strong, classic, regal, due for a comeback.

ThatIsMyPotato · 02/05/2021 13:07

Ooh it's lovely.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 02/05/2021 16:13

Beautiful - Jane is a lovely, elegant classic with a lot of cool namesakes. It's going to make a comeback eventually (along with similar Mary, Margaret and Frances) so you will just be ahead of the pack.
