What do you like best, Ailsa or Morven. We are in Scotland. Both siblings have Scottish/Irish names.

there is/was a pub in glasgow called the morven - my mum liked the name but my dad refused it in case folk thought i was named after the pub

justaweeone · 30/04/2021 19:23

I have a lovely 23 year old Dd called Ailsa. It's such a lovely name that is often commented on.(we live in Norfolk although I'm Scottish)
I know I'm biased Grin

AgeLikeWine · 30/04/2021 19:51

Alisa. Lovely, proper name.

HarkAVagrant · 30/04/2021 19:52

Morven. Ailsa always makes me think of Home and Away.

Franke · 30/04/2021 19:53

Both lovely but I prefer Ailsa.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 30/04/2021 19:53

Morven.

Peachbubble · 30/04/2021 19:57

Morven

ShoppingPrecinctPrincess · 30/04/2021 20:00

Morven by a mile.

Ailsa is a granny name. Not the chic kind.

ILoveStickers · 30/04/2021 20:00

Ailsa

Knittedfairies · 30/04/2021 20:02

Morven.

BathTangle · 30/04/2021 20:04

Morven - gorgeous name. Always makes me think of this amazing song Maiden of Morven

DramaAlpaca · 30/04/2021 20:07

Ailsa

Maggiesfarm · 30/04/2021 20:08

Morven - I do like both names though.

thetrinityisshite · 30/04/2021 21:00

I think Morven is my favourite too but my surname starts with a M too. I'm probably over thinking it!

Morven. Ailsa always makes me think of Home and Away.
I was going to say I prefer Ailsa becuase it reminds me of Home and Away!
ShoppingPrecinctPrincess · 30/04/2021 21:04

Ailsa's diner was Summer Bay's premier hangout back in 1992

Sarcobaleno · 30/04/2021 21:06

The M alliteration is fine I think.

SavannahLands · 30/04/2021 21:27

Morven, Ailsa could get shortened to Ale, as in Beer later in life!

Orphlids · 30/04/2021 22:00

Morven. And the alliteration will make it even better!

CaffiSaliMali · 30/04/2021 22:00

Both nice but Morven is fabulous. If I was Scottish I would use Morven.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 30/04/2021 22:14

Morven is gorgeous. And unless your surname also has many of the same sounds as Morven (so for instance Morven Mortensen) then generally alliteration is very cool - ala Marilyn Monroe.

Ailsa is pretty but blends in more with the vowel heavy names currently popular - plus could get confused with Elsa outside Scotland.

BlackcurrantTea · 30/04/2021 22:21

If you're likely to have any connection to France, I'd avoid Morven - morve is French for snot! Obviously not an issue if she's unlikely to visit...
