Welsh girls names you can pronounce

So having failed to agree on anything DH thinks something from his Welsh side would be nice. We don’t live in Wales though so I’m wanting to know what’s hot and what’s not in Wales and what can people pronounce. So far from the family connections we have

Sian - I like but heard old fashioned in Wales
Siriol
Ceridwen
Eirian (Ayrian)
Manon - I quite like this
Tesni
Eluned
Glesni - again quite like this
Tarian - may be a bit GOT

Any more?

@TatianaBis I love Esyllt but nobody in England will be able to pronounce it.

@Fivemoreminutes1 love Briallen too but again don’t think people could pronounce it

No they won’t you’re right, but I really like Iseult so I’d use that instead

Frankiefarr · 30/04/2021 19:02

@TatianaBis I like the Cornish version Eseld or Esyld

I liked the Cornish Elowen but we found it was one of those that looked good written down but pronounced properly sounded awful

Opened the thread to post 'All of them' but having read the OP,

Siân - not much used since the 1970s. Overused in the 1960s, along with Carys, Bethan and Rhian
Siriol - nice, not much used but will be Sir-yul
Ceridwen - very old lady. Will get mispronounced. Said as Cridwen where I'm from.
Eirian (Ayrian) - Middle aged. Will get mispronounced.
Manon - I quite like this - mind the surname. Will be Mannun
Tesni - fine
Eluned - Will get mispronounced.
Glesni - again quite like this - ok bu not keen. A bit too Glesney
Tarian - may be a bit GOT - Just the word for shield and not a name.

Not heard Teifina before but the explained pronunciation is not Welsh (it would be Tay-VEE-nie).
Ina, Elowen and Arwen aren't Welsh. Rowena isn't either.
Meredith is an anglicised form of a boy's name.

Megan, Bronwyn, Gwyneth, Ffion, Anwen, Catrin, Gwen, Bethan, Dilys

Aliceandthemarchhare · 30/04/2021 21:28

Eleri is probably the only welsh girls name I like, if I’m totally honest.

tinytemper66 · 30/04/2021 21:29

Siân is fab. Not old fashioned 😊

glassbrightly · 30/04/2021 21:30

I have one on the above list, but won't name as it's outing. If we had had another daughter it would have been Catrin

Sennedd · 30/04/2021 21:32

Delyth, Megan, Bethan, Catrin, Cerian, Rhiannon,

BunnyRuddington · 30/04/2021 21:34
