The name Hester

What comes to mind when you think of the name Hester? Do you like it? i really love it but scared of people reactions.

I love it. Reminds me of little Hester Grey's garden in the Anne of Green Gables books. And also Hester in His Dark Materials. It was on my shortlist with nickname Hettie.

I'm reading a prayer for Owen meany. Hester is a great character but she does get called Hester the molester. just something I'd want to note!

I like it - strong, unusual, interesting. I think you'll get a surprised reaction from people not into names though. It may be perceived as very old-fashioned in a clunky kind of way.

I think it's awful. Just a horrible sounding word. Someone who 'hests'... which sounds unhygienic

I know a Hester who is lovely but I've always thought that it never sounds like a proper name for some reason.

I know a Hester, so to me it's just...her name. I can't say I've ever sat on zoom with her thinking wow, your name sounds like fester.

Also the hare daemon in His Dark Materials who is very cool.

I love it. I think it is another version of Esther, isn't it? So Hester Thrale's daughter Hester was nicknamed Queeney as in Queen Esther.

Anyway, that's intensely niche. But I think it's a great name.

In regards to Hester the molester i suppose this could be the same as Smelly Ellie, Nellie the Elephant, Carter Farter. I think with a lot of names things like this can come up. Thank you for all your comments they have really helped. No name is going to be liked by everyone, just like i dont like very girly sounding names eg Annabella (sorry no offence to any on here!) i also think the fact i am defending the name means i have already made my mind up! Thank you everyone.
