Love the nickname matty but can’t think of anything other than Matilda as a longer version. Any ideas?

Matahari

Martha
Martina
Marta

Maybe even Margaret or Madeline ??

ColonelPine · 25/04/2021 20:39

Mathilde?

therestissilence · 25/04/2021 20:43

Metella? That was always the female character in our Latin textbooks. A nice sounding classical name!

SilentPanic · 25/04/2021 20:44

Mati pronounced Mattie is a girls' name in Welsh.

percheron67 · 25/04/2021 21:00

Ruggy?!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 25/04/2021 21:01

Mattea? (Italian girls name "Mah-tay-ah").Or biblical Mehetabel is probably a bit much?

Wolfiefan · 25/04/2021 21:05

You need to choose a name you love. As your child gets older they will choose whether they want a nickname or to be called the full version. You can’t impose a nickname on a child.

brushlaptop · 25/04/2021 21:06

No. Just no.

@percheron67 lol 😂

toastofthetown · 25/04/2021 21:13

Mehetabel

MKCH · 25/04/2021 21:19

Ah I've got a Matty! But sorry - can't be of help as she's Matilda.
Just be warned though, I constantly get people telling me I've spelt it the boy's way, and also had a family member tell me that if we told them they could only spell it Matty, they'd not call her that, they'd only call her Matilda 🙄

Cbeebiesrehab · 25/04/2021 21:27

Love Matty...really love Mattie!
I would go with Matilda naturally but it’s also a recognised diminutive for Martha.

Brother’s name: Caecilius.
EwwSprouts · 25/04/2021 21:47

There's a flower Matthiola.
But I do think Matty is a male nickname. There were 3 today in DS's team.

ILoveStickers · 25/04/2021 22:06

Yes, recognised nickname of Matilda or Martha.

I guess your other option is to use initially like Maria Anya Thea - hence MAT - hence Mattie.

partyatthepalace · 25/04/2021 22:52

Matilda or Mattea really (or Martha but that is dreary), Martina plausible, and Margaret/Margarite just about.

I think you have to be ok with the full name - but I think Mattea and Matilda are both lovely.

Like Nutella!
Wanderdream · 26/04/2021 13:47

Oh thank you for these amazing suggestions! I’d never thought of Martha which is a lovely name! Also love the suggestion of Marta.

@SilentPanic ahh that’s interesting! My daughter has a Welsh middle name due to family connections. Love this link!
@MKCH oh why are family like this?!?! I love masculine sounding names/nicknames for girls

I know a toddler Madeline who calls herself Mattie (definitely not maddie)

MKCH · 26/04/2021 19:35

@Wanderdream
Same! That's why we decided on it - Matty on the rugby pitch, Matilda when she's a CEO, Tilda/Tilds if she wants to be a bit quirky when she's a teenager 😂
(Although nursery have already taken to calling her Tilds, and she calls herself 'Da' at the moment (but she is only 16 months so that's understandable!!)

diddlediddle · 02/05/2021 16:16

Matty just seems such an unpleasant sound. Like Matt (fine) but with a pointless twee "ee " on the end. Surely loads of nicer names and nicknames! Marty on the other hand is nice
