They’re all a bit...wet (sorry!)
They all bring to mind a certain type of man living in a certain type of area. I can imagine an artist or a solicitor with those names but not a builder for example
Gabriel is best from the list though IMO for versatility

CubanLinx · 18/04/2021 14:18

I like Valentine.
Gabriel is OK.
The others are quite retro! But that seems to be the style you’re going for, so...

Clarence
Cornelius
Herbert (I quite like the nn Herbie!)
Sylvester
Theodore

gollymissdolly · 18/04/2021 14:21

Gabriel is the only one I like from your list.

Yika · 18/04/2021 14:21

I like Gabriel and maybe Maurice? The others perhaps rather for middle names. A few others in a similar vein:

Barnaby
Piers
Florian
Constantine
Christian
Julian
Marcus

I’m no where near posh enough for this thread. All those names sound really posh to me including PP suggestions, I can’t actually think of a name similar.

However my rule was does it suit a child, does it suit an adult, does it look like a serious name on a CV (I have issues with precious etc as I think people will judge them on a CV beforehand for being an airhead) and could you be the prime Minister.

Caspian
Robin
Amias
Sebastian
Blake
Harris

ILoveShula · 18/04/2021 17:44

Peregrine - like
Valentine - too closely associated with Feb 14th
Ambrose - not keen
Gabriel - not keen
Maurice/Morris - both fine

Suggestions:
Dennis
Clive
Jeremy
Gordon

Ptarmigan
Duncan
Orlando
Lancelot

We have an Ambrose! It's a lovely name. Be prepared for the odd "Amber Rose?" if someone's not really listening and for every West Indian you ever meet to have a grandfather or great uncle called Ambrose, but we've been very happy with it. It suits him very well (he's a gentle, loquacious little thing) and have had no problems with people not recognising it as a real name or not being able to spell it.

Love Gabriel.

I think Perry is nice but not as keen on Peregrine. I used to know a Valentine double-barrelled surname & he was extremely posh. I don't really like Ambrose or Maurice but like Gabriel.

Love Gabriel. The rest sound about 90.

I like Valentin Russian pronunciation: VaaleynTEEn

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 20/04/2021 18:24

Gabriel is lovely but fairly popular, so doesn't fit with the others from that point of view. Not keen on Maurice, but the others are nice although very brave!

The names have a kind of romantic feel to me so maybe Valentin (more European sounding than Valentine), Emrys (Welsh version of Ambrose), Heath, Ferdinand, Corin, Marius or Maxim. I also like pp suggestions of Tristan, Magnus, Xavier, Sebastian, Orlando and Caspian too.
