I think they both work but neither feel as classic as Mabel. They're all from quite different categories of names imo, Mabel= traditional, Ethan= Biblical (and revived recently), Elliot= Surname. Both good options though. Other ideas could be

Elias
Eli
Seth
Reuben
Otto
Asa

YoniAndGuy · 16/04/2021 19:07

Like Ethan, hate Elliott.

LlamaGiles · 16/04/2021 19:18

Ellis?
I actually think Ethan or Elliott would be fine though.

ChocOrange1 · 16/04/2021 19:19

I like both names. I wouldn't say they "go" with Mabel though. Mabel is quite quaint and old fashioned and sweet, whereas Ethan and Elliott seem very modern.

I would choose:
Mabel and George
Mabel and Arthur
Mabel and Freddie
Mabel and Peter
Mabel and Rupert

MerryMarigold · 16/04/2021 19:23

I think they are quite different styles. With Mabel I would think:

Stan, Fred, Hughie, Walter, Alfred, Archibald, Cecil, Albert, Percy, Edward, Jack, Oliver,

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 16/04/2021 20:54

Both are nice enough names but I agree with pp that because Mabel is so retro/vintage I'd expect her brother to either be something very traditional sounding - Henry, John, Edward, William, Frederick, Robert, Hugh etc or similarly retro/vintage - Alfred, Wilfred, Albert, Edmund etc.

merryhouse · 16/04/2021 20:56

Sorry, but you can't call Mabel's brother Frederick

Happenchance · 16/04/2021 21:04

I like both Ethan and Elliott.

Other suggestions:
Ernie/Ernest
Stanley
Patrick
Samson
Luke

KoalaOok · 16/04/2021 21:06

Love Ethan

Why not?

Elliot is a lovely name and quite old fashioned in itself.

Tillygetsit · 16/04/2021 22:48

Unless Im missing something obvious, I love Mabel and Fred together. They're my imaginary donkeys.

merryhouse · 17/04/2021 16:58

Pirates of Penzance.

Ok, maybe there are so few G&S fans nowadays that it won't matter Grin

Ellmau · 17/04/2021 17:21

I prefer Ethan.

I know Elliot is used quite a lot as a first name (I know a couple), but it still feels like a surname to me.

What about Elijah?

lobsteroll · 17/04/2021 17:48

I prefer Elliot.

What about:

George
Ben
Joss
Thomas

Edenember · 17/04/2021 22:55

First thoughts were Seth, Ned, Angus, Jethro, Kitt.

Junebabe · 17/04/2021 23:25

I think Elliot goes better with Mabel IMO
Other suggestions...
Evan
Emerson
Liam
Oscar
Benjamin
Caleb
Asher
Jasper
Jesse
Timothy
Felix
isaac

Banville · 17/04/2021 23:36

Something similarly 1920s/30s, like Cedric, Walter or Fred.

waltzingparrot · 17/04/2021 23:42

I like Mabel & Oliver.
Flows off the tongue nicely.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 17/04/2021 23:45

MJBmummy · 19/04/2021 20:49
