Lara but not...and not Clara

I adore the gentle elegant sound of Lara it's currently in the Top 100 for girls names and increasing in usage as are quite a few 2 syllable girl names starting L. I had a look and there's Lyla, Lola, Lily, Lucy, Lara, Lilly etc. I can't use Clara.

Lara is gorgeous, can you think of other elegant 2 syllable names for girls? Preferably not beginning with L or El.

Ellen would have been mu choice for a girl. But it’s an ‘el’ sound.

We know a Myra. Could be too soon though.

Thank you everyone, these are brilliant.

I can't explain why but Cora, Zara and Tara don't do it for me like Lara. Though I have just discovered Lara Trump in my research.....

Someone has put me onto behindthename . com and it's incredible, highly recommend

@BellaVida trying to avoid L and El names though there are some sweet ones in your list

Does anyone else's brain do this - Cora = corn
Tara = tar
Zara = shop.

My brain does this with a lot of names and its then all I can think of..most annoying.

I know a little Lana pronounced the same as Lara. I think it's really pretty and quite unusual, where I live it is anyway.

GlitterBiscuits · 15/04/2021 17:05

Lara is lovely.

How about Lorna?

Karcheer · 15/04/2021 17:07

I knew a few Dara's growing up, but haven't heard this name for awhile.

Trying to think of names I don't think have been suggested yet:

Tessa
Mary
Polly
Amy
Esther
Rosa
Megan
Nia
April
Alice
Nicole
Zoe
Ivy
Jemma or Gemma
Heidi
Katya
Nina
Erin

Of these, Zoe, Tessa, Erin and Nina give me a similar vibe to Lara. (No-nonsense, feminine, kick-ass). Smile

ArnottsUnderpass · 15/04/2021 18:32

I have a Lois (low-iss) Another strong but still feminine name. She's usually known as Loll half the time as a nickname.

HotTomatoes · 15/04/2021 18:40

Mara? I heard this name in a TV show recently and thought it was pretty and classy.

Gaia
Thora
Esther
Freya
Briar
Dinah
Thea

I love Lara and the fact is there is nothing that sounds similar that is as nice. Same as Lily which I love but I don't like Milly, or Tilly or Emily. Top 100 names doesn't mean they are that popular. Stick with Lara

brizzlewizzle · 15/04/2021 23:01

How about Larissa (not even in the top 1000), shortened to Lara?

Luckyelephant1 · 15/04/2021 23:07

But why can't you use Lara? Does it matter that it's increasing in popularity? It's a lovely name.

FTM91 · 16/04/2021 14:32

I love Lara. Stella is also on my list if that helps
