Susanna - Sukie for short traditional family name or Elowen my current favourite as Xanthe vetoed by the family as doesn’t really go with surname

Oh that's hard to choose between. I really love Susanna and it's a family name- lovely diminutive.
But I'd vote for the gorgeous Elowen. Now that's a name! Beautiful.

StevieNix · 14/04/2021 13:07

I think both are beautiful

Aozora13 · 14/04/2021 13:09

I only discovered the name Elowen the other day and absolutely love it! Suki was my cats name so less keen - also to be aware you don’t always end up with shortening you want for a name (just ask my mum...)

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 14/04/2021 15:03

Susanna - so classic but underused, so would be my choice. Sukie is a super cute nn, but she has other options if she wants to when older - Sansa, Suze, Annie, Anya etc.

Elowen is very nice but El - names are quite popular at the moment, and I'm not sure outside Cornwall everyone will get the pronunciation right.

KoalaOok · 14/04/2021 15:11

Susanna so she can choose a diminutive to suit.

KirstenBlest · 14/04/2021 15:26

Susanna.

Elowen is nice but is El-O-wen not EL-o-wen, and is yet another Ellie name.

Edenember · 14/04/2021 17:27

Susannah.

Junebabe · 14/04/2021 20:11

i prefer Elowen!

LiverLungs · 14/04/2021 20:11

Susanna

Tianatiers · 14/04/2021 20:15

I was coming on to say Elowen over Sukie but I do like Susanna, so both as lovely as each other. I prefer the spelling Susannah though and prefer the nickname Susie/y.

I personally don't think you can really pick nicknames in advance for children, they kind of grow into a nickname I find. I say this as my DD has a name that has a few nickname options and we really like one of them but she hates it and tells us to call her a different nickname, and she's only 4!

Frankiefarr · 15/04/2021 16:18

Ha I know about that. My mum and dad have always called me a nickname for my name which I hate and have refused to use since I started talking 🤣

Suzannah is lovely.

VenusClapTrap · 15/04/2021 20:12

I like Susanna and Elowen equally, but really dislike Sukie, so on that basis I’d vote for Elowen.

DenisetheMenace · 15/04/2021 20:14

Elowen. Sunken for me will forever be a cat. But that’s me ! Both are lovely.

(Is Elowen Welsh or maybe Cornish?)

DenisetheMenace · 15/04/2021 20:15

Sukie not Sunken.
That would be weird Grin

ZebraKid71 · 15/04/2021 20:16

I really both, but rhe pronunciation issues would out me off Elowen.

Chunkymenrock · 15/04/2021 20:17

Sukie is gorgeous. Dislike L. O. N. But love Lowenna, in case that's an option?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 15/04/2021 20:18

I love Sukie! I’m not so keen on Susanna, though. I’d be tempted to use Sukie as her full name.

KirstenBlest · 15/04/2021 21:27

Elowen is El Owen not L O N. It's Cornish

lemonsyellow · 15/04/2021 22:42

Susanna by miles

Ellmau · 15/04/2021 22:43

Susanna is lovely.

HerRoyalNotness · 15/04/2021 22:43

Elowen. We almost used it, I wish we had

Frankiefarr · 16/04/2021 12:40

Thanks everyone. Yes we would be pronouncing Elowen El-Owen

OP posts:
KirstenBlest · 16/04/2021 12:42

Be prepared for people saying LON, and calling here Ellie. For those reasons I'd pick Lowenna, which I slightly prefer anyway, but both are nice.

user1493494961 · 18/04/2021 09:06

Susannah is lovely, not keen on Sukie though. Elowen is pretty but will likely become Ellie, of which there are hundreds.
