Boy's name

I'm really struggling to decide on a boy's name. We have two boys already and I found it hard then, too! Suggestions and opinions are very welcome. Our shortlist so far:

Dexter
Chester
Seth
Sebastian
Oliver
Ashley
Owen
Lev

I really like Chester but I’m from Scotland and no one here seems to use it. Oliver is lovely but really popular here, don’t let popularity put you off though. What about Milo?

Standrewsschool · 11/04/2021 13:15

Lovely names, apart from Lev.

Alternatives:
Ellis
Elliott
Alastair
Julian
Rupert
Nathaniel
Connor
Benjamin

KirstenBlest · 11/04/2021 13:20

don't like:
Dexter
Chester
Seth
Sebastian
Ashley
Lev - is it a name or a nickname?

like:
Oliver
Owen

If you like Owen you might like Lloyd

Wowyouareboring · 11/04/2021 13:23

Oliver

DotDotDotDotDot · 11/04/2021 13:49

I like Owen best from your list, solid boys name. Maybe Evan or Ivan?

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 11/04/2021 14:09

Of your choices, I absolutely adore the simple, quirky Lev - but it is quite rare in the UK. My second favourite is the classic, but underused Owen.

Seth, Sebastian and Oliver are also nice (although you'll need to accept Oliver will probably not be the only one in his class/groups, assuming you're in the UK).

Ashley feels a bit dated and Dexter and Chester are too trendy/celeb for me, sorry.

Edenember · 11/04/2021 14:32

I love Seth, comfy to wear, easy to say and spell, everyone knows it but not overused, cute on a child but grown up on a man. It’s versatile without being dull.

ripprincephilip · 11/04/2021 14:39

I love Ashley

KoalaOok · 11/04/2021 14:46

Owen is nice and I like Ashley.
Euan
Ryan
Mason
Scott
Ethan

PattyPan · 11/04/2021 14:57

Dexter - I quite like this but do associate it with the tv show
Chester - awful
Seth - quite nice, underused
Sebastian - pretentious
Oliver - love this but it is very popular at the moment if that matters to you
Ashley - meh
Owen - I like this, also Owain
Lev - nice, makes me think of Tolstoy

Amdone123 · 11/04/2021 15:03

I like from your list, Seth, Sebastian and Oliver. Love Oliver. Its popularity doesn't bother me.
I dislike Chester (??). Dexter is ok, bit too try hard. I don't like Owen. Well, it's nice for a teenager, grown man, but not a baby (!).
Lev ? Is it short for something?

PattyPan · 11/04/2021 15:07

Lev isn’t short for anything, it’s the Russian version of Leo. I think it’s relatively common in Israel/Jewish communities as well.

Amdone123 · 11/04/2021 15:33

I think I quite like Lev.

Babynamenamechanger21 · 11/04/2021 15:34

Thanks all for the comments. What's nice to see is that most people seem to prefer Seth which is the name I keep going back to, although have struggled to make it "stick" so far.

I absolutely love Dexter and Chester but they just don't feel right somehow.

We are put off by the popularity of Oliver but isn't a complete deal breaker.

Glad I posted now Grin

It's between Owen and Oliver for me.

Babynamenamechanger21 · 11/04/2021 15:35

I say most people, really I should say "lots of people" like Seth!

OP posts:
KoalaOok · 11/04/2021 15:35

I like Seth but often hear it said Seff round ere

Jurassiclover · 11/04/2021 16:22

I think Seth, Owen and Sebastian are nicest from your list! And congratulations btw!

TatianaBis · 11/04/2021 17:33

Sebastian is far nicer than any of the others. Oliver is ok but very popular.

Seth is grim - something nasty in the woodshed. (Cold Comfort Farm).

DinosaurDiana · 11/04/2021 17:35

I like Seb.

Flymetothestars · 12/04/2021 07:58

I love Seth - that's my favourite from your list but a lot of nice choices on there

PollyThePony · 12/04/2021 08:12

Sebastian is lovely! My favourite I think.

Also really like Seth and Owen. If you do go with Seth, there was a thread on here recently where a poster was trying to give away a personalised blanket she had made with the name Seth on it! Maybe it's a sign. Seth is a good name. Short, easy to spell, cool but traditional. Starting to talk myself out of Sebastian and into Seth here Grin
