Forgot to add, which ones also sound refined and elegant? Bit concerned about Suhani / Ahana/ Alisha.

For me, Selina by miles.

To me the 'ha' sound in Ahana and Suhani sounds a little harsher. Lila does sound soft and feminine to me but it's also very overused at the moment and therefore to me more 'common' than elegant. Alisha sounds nice but it would confuse me whether it is spelled Alicia and pronounced in the American way.

DalPalak · 04/04/2021 17:33

I love Suhani. Can't stand Selina -- always sounds slithery to me. Lila, Ahana, and Alisha are nice but they all seem commonplace somehow.... So many similar names out there.

The more Indian-sounding names actually seem more refined/elegant to me. But I'm biased. Grin

Summertime21 · 04/04/2021 17:38

Lila is my favourite from your list, I don't like Alisha or Selina.

KindnessCrusader · 04/04/2021 17:41

Ahana sounds like a whisper I absolutely love it!

SunnySideUp2020 · 04/04/2021 17:42

Lila only one i like personally

TatianaBis · 04/04/2021 17:46

Refined and elegant - Suhani and Ahana

I’d ditch Alisha and Lila as they’re quite common names.

Selina’s ok but I prefer Serena.

Aspiringmatriarch · 04/04/2021 17:48

Suhani is lovely, both feminine and elegant Smile.

KBILLY · 04/04/2021 17:48

I know a Suhani and love the name!

canwetalk · 04/04/2021 18:17

How does Avani/ Avni sound? Forgot to add it to the list!!

Ellmau · 04/04/2021 18:23

I think Selina is the most elegant. Alisha the least.

Nohomemadecandles · 04/04/2021 18:26

Alisha no. Hard no!
Love Suhani.
The others are nice.

itssquidstella · 04/04/2021 18:33

I’ve never heard Suhani before but I think it sounds beautiful.

itssquidstella · 04/04/2021 18:33

Avni is quite nice! Not as nice as Suhani, though.

Just out of interest, what is the origin of these names?

sherrystrull · 04/04/2021 18:35

Ahana is lovely. As is Lila. I don't like Selina at all. Sounds like semolina

canwetalk · 04/04/2021 18:38

Thanks everyone! Ruled out Alisha because I’ve been very half hearted about it all along but DH was keen so kept trying to force myself to like it, he’s thankfully gone off it now!
@itssquidstella These are mostly Indian names. Selina / Alisha are quite popular international names used within the Indian community but I’m not sure if they have any roots in Sanskrit or Hindi.
You’re all starting to convince me that Suhani is a good option! I had my doubts initially but it’s growing on me!

I like Suhani and Avni from your suggestions.

mum2jakie · 04/04/2021 20:38

Lila - beautiful

grumpyflumpy · 04/04/2021 20:39

Love Lila

Chunkymenrock · 04/04/2021 20:41

Lila sounds like a sanitary pad to me and Selina reminds me of semolina. I do like the others though.

DramaAlpaca · 04/04/2021 20:43

They all sound soft and feminine to me.

I don't think Alisha or Lila sound particularly refined or elegant, but the others do.

I like Suhani best, it's beautiful.

I like Avani/Avni too, but it's got less of a soft sound than the others.

Odile13 · 04/04/2021 20:46

Selena is my favourite. Very pretty.

JemimaJoy · 05/04/2021 04:15

Selena

canwetalk · 05/04/2021 11:02

Thanks everyone!
Updated shortlist:
Deepika

Suhani
Lila
