Roisin, Rosie or Rosa

Hi
Im due a girl in a month and favourite name is Rosie.
However I think it could be a bit twee/princessy for a grown woman, so thinking of either Rosa or Roisin as full name.

I don't love Rosa or Roisin though.

Also would people struggle with pronunciation of Roisin? It is pronounced (Ro-sheen), but would people read it as Roy-sin in England?!
My partner is Irish so I know there's supposed to be a fada on it, but don't know how to add on phone! My son already has a straightforward Irish name, so it would fit fine.
What do you think? Just go with Rosie?!

I really like Rosalind.
Then there's Rose, Rosaline, Rosemary, Rosemarie... Lots of options

Zarinea · 04/04/2021 08:40

I like Rosamund on that theme...

But I also love Roisin. I'm a Londoner with no Irish connections, but I know a few and would have no problems pronouncing it.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 04/04/2021 08:42

I think they are all lovely. How do they go with the surname?

babynamelover · 04/04/2021 09:37

I like Rose 🌹

DotDotDotDotDot · 04/04/2021 09:43

I’m probably not much help as I love all variations of this name, probably as my lovely granny was a Rose. Maybe Roisin though if your son has an Irish name? Good luck choosing you can’t go wrong.

IggyAce · 04/04/2021 10:23

I prefer Rosalie, but from your list I’d go with Roisin since your ds has an Irish name.

JamieFrasersBigSwingingKilt · 04/04/2021 11:15

Rose is lovely. With Rosie as an occasional nickname. Rosie is very feminine but I wouldn't call it princessy. It's a classic.

GertrudeTheGreat · 04/04/2021 11:19

I love Rosanna! In fact, it would be in the running if we ever had another girl, (which we almost certainly won't).

I also like Rosalie, but think it's a pain when telling people your name. I did a baby class with ds and there was a baby Rosalie. Every time her mum said "this is Rosalie", people would hear something else (Rosie, Rosemary). Put me off the idea of ever using it, although it's lovely.

GertrudeTheGreat · 04/04/2021 11:26

The nice thing about Rosanna is, you can call her Rosie, but if she likes, when she is older, she also has the choice of Rosanna, Rose, Rosa, Rosie, Anna, Annie.

TheDaydreamBelievers · 04/04/2021 11:41

I like all the Rosie options - Rose, Rosaline, Rosalyn/Rosilyn too. Rosa is quite popular atm.

OverTheRainbow88 · 04/04/2021 11:42

What about Rose?

MagicSummer · 04/04/2021 11:43

Rosina is another option.

Squeejit · 04/04/2021 11:44

I love Roisin. It suits your family and is easy enough for people to pronounce. It’s one of my favourite names 🌹

MrsCrosbyNRTB · 04/04/2021 12:04

Love Rosa. Beautifully name

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 04/04/2021 12:14

Love Rosa. Classy, strong and international.

KirstenBlest · 04/04/2021 14:51

Call her Rosie.

PearlclutchersInc · 04/04/2021 14:55

They're all nice but if you choose Roisin, she'll spend her life telling people how to spell it - even in Ireland!

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 04/04/2021 14:59

Róisín is well known in Ireland.

It might be nice to continue with the Irish theme.
I like all forms of Rose.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 04/04/2021 15:13

Rose is lovely

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 04/04/2021 15:13

Or how about Rosabel

FreshBedding · 04/04/2021 15:15

Rosie

Derrymum123 · 04/04/2021 15:22

Róisín is lovely.

KirstenBlest · 04/04/2021 15:22

Róisín - will have spelling issues and will be mispronounced - I think it is Roe-sheen not Rosh-EEN

Booboobadoo · 04/04/2021 15:24

If you love Rosie, call her Rosie. I know adult Rosies and have never thought the name twee/princessy, it's a lovely name.

SionnachRua · 04/04/2021 15:26

@KirstenBlest

Róisín - will have spelling issues and will be mispronounced - I think it is Roe-sheen not Rosh-EEN
OP didn't type Rosh-een though.

Personally I'd go with the Irish name but Rosalie or Rosanna are nice too. Or Rose, seems underused as a first name. Rosie is a nice nickname (bit twee for my tastes though) but may as well give her the option of another name too.
