Roisin, Rosie or Rosa

Hi
Im due a girl in a month and favourite name is Rosie.
However I think it could be a bit twee/princessy for a grown woman, so thinking of either Rosa or Roisin as full name.

I don't love Rosa or Roisin though.

Also would people struggle with pronunciation of Roisin? It is pronounced (Ro-sheen), but would people read it as Roy-sin in England?!
My partner is Irish so I know there's supposed to be a fada on it, but don't know how to add on phone! My son already has a straightforward Irish name, so it would fit fine.
What do you think? Just go with Rosie?!

I'm biased. Roisin is hands down my favourite. I've never been called Raisin despite what a PP thinks and I have lived round the world.
Depending on where you live it is pronounced Row-Sheen or Rosh-Sheen. That is area dependent and doesn't bother me a bit. It is the same name, just depends on where the pronouncer
I get Ro or Rose as a nn and have done for 30 odd years. I love my name but a close runner is Roise (pronounced Ro-sha or Rocha depending on where the pronouncer is from).
All solid names you have chosen PP.

Rose or Rosanna are lovely 😊.

ILoveShula · 05/04/2021 14:31

I know a Rose, she's a Rosalind on her BC. Beautiful name.

OddsNSodsBitsNBobs · 06/04/2021 20:47

@jupeBex

I think they're lovely names, our DD is due in May and she will be named Rosalía (Rosa-lee-ah). OH is Mexican and we think it is a beautiful, classic and lesser heard of (as far as I know)
That's a lovely name jupe!

I know a Rosalia (no accent) but its pronounced Rose-ah-Lee-ah. Nice both ways.

AuditAngel · 06/04/2021 21:03

I refused to use Rosa as a middle name for DD2 after MIL as I didn’t like it. I also couldn’t get DH to understand that it would be said without a rolled Spanish R and it really wasn’t the same with a West London accent!

GOODCAT · 06/04/2021 21:14

I know a Rosie who is in her mid-twenties. She is very feminine and very classy and it really suits her, though I think she is actually a Rosemary, which I am not so keen on. I like Rosie though.

I also really like Rose. I wouldn't use Roisin just because a few people would find it hard to pronounce. (I have a name that gets mis-pronounced a lot).

Katjolo · 06/04/2021 21:30

All lovely names OP

NoLactose · 06/04/2021 21:34

I like Rose.

DrEllie · 06/04/2021 21:44

I have a Róisín. Ro or Rosh for short. It's not the easiest of names to have (even here in Liverpool) but she gets by. It's a beautiful name with an interesting heritage en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C3%B3is%C3%ADn_Dubh_(song)

Petal7 · 06/04/2021 22:11

Rose is a beautiful, classic name. Rosie is friendly and warm. Both fab names for adult or child.

Frazzled2207 · 06/04/2021 22:17

Rosanna or Rose
However if your ds has an Irish name Roisin might go very nicely- I have come across a few and I think the spelling and pronunciation is pretty well understood in England

PattyPan · 06/04/2021 22:29

I'm English and I know how Roisin is pronounced but I don't like it. Rosh isn't really a nice sound and I've heard Roisins being called that for short but not Rosie.
I'd either go just for Rosie or something like Rosalyn, Rosalind, Rosemary, Rosamund, Roseanne, Rosalie etc. I think Rosa is too short to be shortened.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 06/04/2021 22:35

Rosaleen is very pretty and Irish

ILoveStickers · 07/04/2021 14:14

I love Rosalie, Rosa and Róisín. With an Irish name in the family already, Róisín is great.

I've known a Róisín who preferred to be known as Rosie, so it's not unknown.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 07/04/2021 17:31

If you like Rosie, just go with it. It sounds just fine on people of all ages...

Edenember · 07/04/2021 18:05

I like the simple, classic Rose. I don’t think those other variants lend themselves to Rosie as a nn as well. Of your two options I prefer Rosa I think... but if you’re to call her Rosa you may as well call her Rosie.

Chelyanne · 07/04/2021 19:11

Go with Rosie if that's what you like. Your daughter can choose to shorten it later in life if she likes or may well love it.

I like that name too, dh does not though he started singing Rosie & Jim at me in protest lol

SleepymrsE · 07/04/2021 19:17

I am biased as I have a Rosalind nn Rosa. She’s 4 and at no point have I ever questioned if it was the right choice. Still love it. Rosalind worked well with her big brothers name, Wilfred nn Wilf.

Macblondie · 08/04/2021 13:16

I think the name Rosie is beautiful. You should just go with it!
