Too many princess names?

We have an older daughter (6) called Arabella and are expecting twins any day now really. We are struggling so much on their names and had settled on Audrey & Quinn but are now considering Aurora to replace one of those two names.
But, my question is, is having Aurora and Arabella(Belle) too many princess names / does it sound like we spend all our time watching Disney+?!

@musicalfrog

I love Quinn actually and think it could be very glamorous! I'd prefer to be Quinn than Audrey personally.

You're worrying about her not having the A initial but are you planning any more babies after this?

Definitely not!!! We hoped for 4 and have been blessed with 5 :)

Not sure why you singled me out, OP. I'm really not saying anything that different to anyone else.

If it's late in the game and you are sold on Audrey and Aurora, as you seem to be in your later posts, then that's great. I gave an opinion on what I thought, which is what everyone else has done. Several ppl have also mentioned avoiding the triple A thing. Fair enough that it's not an issue for you.

I think the names Audrey and Aurora are too close/confusing for twins, and I do see the Bella/Aurora Disney conflict and therefore think Audrey and Quinn would be better. That's just my opinion, as an outsider. Obviously you must choose what makes sense to you.

LadyCatStark · 02/04/2021 14:16

Audrey and Quinn both work for American girls but not so much British ones for some reason. What about Audrina?

GertrudeTheGreat · 02/04/2021 15:14

I like Audrey and Aurora. Agree that you could call Aurora Rory day to day and then it would be less confusing.

Ellmau · 02/04/2021 20:49

Arabella, Felix, Hugo, Audrey and Aurora.

I feel Audrey is the odd one out here - the other four names are all quite posh/flowery, and Audrey is a bit 1950s dowdy. Plus twins both starting Au- looks a bit matchy (and in this case one has the short straw of a less pretty name).

If you must have an A, what about Allegra? I think that goes well with the other names. (I like Aurora a lot, btw.)

Finally, I don't care for Quinn myself, but if you're planning on moving back to the US, why not make it one of the twins' middle names, and adopting it as the main name later on?

@twinmama2021

Also, my 6yo and her friends are all much more into tangled, frozen, maleficent etc than sleeping beauty, so I’m quite certain that she wouldn’t actually know who Aurora was, if I asked.
If they're into maleficent they will absolutely know who Aurora is - she's the secondary main character.
contrary13 · 02/04/2021 21:42

Aurora can always be shortened to Rory. Breaks up the "too many cultural icon names" (Disney princesses/Audrey Hepburn) a little, maybe...?

StealthQuin · 02/04/2021 21:50

Just wanted to jump on the thread as my name actually is Quin Grin

Never had any of the problems listed here... love my name and glad it was chosen for me.

If it helps I also come from a family with 2 of the same initials and I’m a Q, have never even thought about it before it was mentioned on this thread Blush

mathanxiety · 02/04/2021 22:29

What were your grandmothers' first names?

I feel that in a family with Arabella, Felix, Hugo, and Audrey, Quinn looks like that old Sesame Street song 'one of these things just doesn't belong'.

I think the combination of Aurora and Arabella (Belle) is going to make people think Disney, sorry.

mathanxiety · 02/04/2021 22:33

I would use Eva and Catherine as first names instead of Audrey and Quinn. They are lovely, and go better with the other names.

therocinante · 02/04/2021 22:39

Audrey & Quinn is a gorgeous set. Aurora is definitely too princessy alongside Arabella (although I like Aurora generally).

Maleficent is a spin-off of Sleeping Beauty. Aurora is one of the main characters.

It’s a shame to lose Quinn. You’re fixated on the A initial but Audrey and Aurora are strange pair to me; one is cool and elegant, the other a frilly mouthful.

Allthebears · 02/04/2021 22:53

Adelaide instead of Aurora?

Estasala · 02/04/2021 23:14

Eva is a lovely name. Arabella, Eva and Audrey? Then the names start with an ah, ee, aw sound so they are all distinct.

But if it's between Aurora and Quinn as the first name, 100% Aurora.

partyatthepalace · 02/04/2021 23:44

Think Arabella, Aurora and Audrey work really well

But if you are still considering, what about Adela?

caringcarer · 03/04/2021 00:07

If you already have Arabella and name second child Aurora won't child named Quinn be upset she is not a princess as she gets older? Quinn is not very feminine.

caringcarer · 03/04/2021 00:09

Jasmine or Ariel princess names too.

CirqueDeMorgue · 03/04/2021 00:18

I like Quinn but I really don't like Audrey, it sounds really 'old fashioned.' I'm clearly in the minority though and I disliked my own DD's name until I got used to it on her (barely had a say in that one 🙄).

mathanxiety · 03/04/2021 06:42

Allegra is the name of an allergy medicine in the US.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 03/04/2021 07:33

Aurora is awful
Quinn seems fine for a boy , but as pp says I would always think of Quim !!!!

ClashCityRocker · 03/04/2021 07:57

I love Quinn and think it goes well with Audrey.

The problem with your revised names I think is that Audrey then feels like the odd one out.

I'm not sure how much of an issue it is either way, the 'not matching' thing. They will just be their names.
That said, I think Audrey and Quinn go better than Audrey and Aurora. That sounds like you wanted the start of the names to match so picked the first two 'Au' names you could find.

Personally I am not a huge fan of Aurora - mostly because I find it difficult to say.
Isn't Audrey also a unisex name, or am I thinking of Aubrey?

I think you're over thinking this. You're unlikely to come across a name that is universally loved by all and none of your names have issues that go beyond personal taste and preference - so you might as well go with your own preference here. Plus if Quinn is a family name on both sides you're unlikely to get a negative response within the famiky at least. Almost all other people will respond to whatever name you chose with a 'Aw, that's lovely' once the little ones are actually here.

HairyToity · 03/04/2021 08:55

I prefer Briar to Aurora. I went to school with a Briar. She's beautiful aand clever. Briar Rose is the name the fairies gave Aurora when she was hidden away.

CescaNicole · 03/04/2021 08:57

I know of someone who has 3 girls, an Arabella, Aurora & Jemima.

I think they go well together.

mellicauli · 03/04/2021 09:08

Aurora isn’t nice

  1. it’s a bit overly grandiose, the name of a cruise liner or a spaceship rather a person
  2. it’s awkward to pronounce
  3. being a Disney princess name you are putting the expectation of beauty out there. But most of us are just ordinary. So an ordinary face with a Disney princess name and you have just put your parental disappointment out there for everyone to see. A more neutral name would be easier for her to mould to her own strengths.
ThanksItHasPockets · 03/04/2021 09:48

This is going to sounds paradoxical but I find Audrey and Aurora simultaneously too similar and too different. The repeated ‘au’ sound is matchy-matchy and twee, but as pp have said the names have such a different feel. Audrey is simple and elegant, whereas Aurora is frilly and fussy. I’d found them a strange pair for any siblings but especially twins. Audrey and Quinn make much more sense as a pair.
