Lydia Rose
Emily Violet

Tillygetsit · 30/03/2021 22:18

My favourite is Alice Violet but all nice names.

Sandwichlunch · 30/03/2021 22:20

Love all three first names, and May and Rose, but don't like Violet at all - makes me think of the awful character from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the word violent!

Think I like Lydia Rose as the best possible combo, and Emily May best out of your three suggested combinations! But you can't go wrong with Lydia, Emily or Alice - all classic and beautiful names. Alice seems to be getting much more popular very suddenly if that bothers you.

GraceArcher · 30/03/2021 22:21

May and Rose are filler middle names, so no to those,

Lydia is nice but will be Lyds so no as a first name.

I prefer Alice to Emily, so Alice as a first name

My shortlist for you:

Alice Emily,
Alice Lydia
or Emily Lydia.

LisbonKid · 30/03/2021 22:26

Thank you.
I think Violet needs to go...forgot about Violet Beauregard and now I cannot forget her!

I'm not keen on the name Violet, but May and Rose are very overdone as middles (the new Louise, Claire or Jane from 30/40 years ago) so my preference of the names as they are on your list is definitely Lydia Violet.

If we can swap them around then I like Lydia Alice best, then Rose Emily or Rose Lydia, or May Lydia or May Alice. Which of those I'd pick for second choice would depend on your surname for flow reasons (starting initial and number of syllables etc).

Lydia Violet. Love the name Lydia! Lydia Rose also works.

partyatthepalace · 30/03/2021 22:59

Lydia Emily or Violet Alice

So many Emilys and Alices about - so Lydia will stand out, plus it’s less twee / more elegant. Violet getting more popular, but much less so than Emily or Alice, and it’s a little sharper, in a good way.

Every second girl has Rose, May or Grace as a middle name, so I’d avoid those

aibutohavethisusername · 30/03/2021 23:00

Emily Rose

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 31/03/2021 06:35

Alice Violet or Lydia Rose 😍

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 31/03/2021 06:36

Love Violet. Think is sounds beautiful. Don't like Emily or May (as a middle name for anything) at all though, so uninteresting

diddlediddle · 31/03/2021 07:08

Don't choose May and Rose 🙄

You might as well go back to 1984 and call her Gemma Louise or Sarah Jane.

On the other hand your first names are all lovely. It's just the middle names that cheapen them. Is there not a meaningful or family name that could add some interest and identity in the middle?

Rainbowqueeen · 31/03/2021 07:09

Lydia Alice

IggyAce · 31/03/2021 07:15

Like pp have pointed out May & Rose are filler middle names, fine to use if they are after a relative but avoid if not. I have a filler middle name & it’s boring as a result my dcs have beautiful long middle names, that were contenders for their first name. I’d suggest:
Lydia Alice or Alice Emily.

Onlinedilema · 31/03/2021 07:17

Alice Rose

GraceArcher · 31/03/2021 08:40

Lydia Alice will be Lyd-yer-alice
Similarly if your surname starts with a vowel, she'll be Lyd-yer-Evans, or whatever.

Emily and Alice are both popular, and given the popularity of Rose and May as middle names, she could end up being one of many Alice Roses or Emily Mays. As pp said, it's the equivalent of the 1980s Jane or Louise as a mn.

I forgot to mention Violet, and although it's nice, I'd not use it as a first name as depending on accent it becomes Vahlut, Vilet, Vahluh etc. I quite like Vi as a nn, and it is nice if you say it properly.

Spied · 31/03/2021 08:45

Alice May or Alice Violet

RoseMartha · 31/03/2021 08:50

Lydia Rose

Stevearnottsbeard · 31/03/2021 09:05

I absolutely hate the term filler name, it makes it sound as though you couldn't be bothered to think of another 'better' name, my first daughter has Grace as a middle name because me and my husband love it, it flows beautifully with her first name and suits her perfectly, but according to here that's a filler name too 😠🤬
Anyway sorry about that OP, didn't mean to derail but needed to get that off my chest, now back to your names...
I love Lydia that's my favourite and think it would sound lovely with either May or Rose. Alice would be my second choice followed by Emily.

Amdone123 · 31/03/2021 09:12

All are lovely, with Alice being my least favourite.
I absolutely love Lydia. Lydia May I would go for.

OloBo · 31/03/2021 09:25

Lydia and Alice are two of my all time favourites, but sadly not my husband’s. You can’t go wrong with either.

Luckingfovely · 31/03/2021 09:35

Lydia Rose or Alice Rose.

No Violets or Mays! Grin

GraceArcher · 31/03/2021 10:46

@ Stevearnottsbeard
"I absolutely hate the term filler name, it makes it sound as though you couldn't be bothered to think of another 'better' name"

I remember the 1980s when most little girls had Louise as a middle name.
I'm of an age group where Jane or Anne was every other girl's middle name.
It just seems so unimaginative.

I think that a middle name offers potential to use a name you love but wouldn't use as a first name.

Friends have names like Sarah Jane, Laura Jane, Karen Ann, Rebecca Anne. So boring, something like Sarah Ruth or Laura Margaret stands out because it looks like some thought has gone into the name.

TatianaBis · 31/03/2021 10:56

Violet is the only one I really like.

Violet Emily or Violet Alice

DragonPoop · 31/03/2021 11:23

How about Clara? It fits in with the names you’ve said you like.
Out of your choices I like Alice the best
