Ted or Miles?

Hi,

I am expecting my second boy and me and my DH are trying to decide on a name. We already have a Max and had pretty much decided on Ted (full name Theodore), as we thought they sounded nice together.

We still love Ted, but we have also been considering Miles and cannot decide which we prefer. Can I get your opinions on which name you prefer out of the two? Smile

I love Ted, personally I'm not keen on Miles.

PandaFluff · 28/03/2021 13:37

I prefer Miles

Both very nice, I’d go for Miles simply because less common - there are a lot of Teds and Teddies about.

sarah13xx · 28/03/2021 15:06

Ohhh that’s a hard one! Both lovely names. Really like the whole Ted nickname thing. Would you call Miles Milo for short? I’m between two names now as well and I think I’m going to have to just decide when I meet him. I don’t think you can go wrong with either though. I’d maybe sway more towards Miles but only very slightly, purely because I presume it’s a bit less popular

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 28/03/2021 15:10

Depends how you feel about popularity. Teds and Teddies are ten a penny at the moment.

Becca0410 · 28/03/2021 15:22

I guess the popularity of Ted doesn’t bother me too much, since I don’t personally know any Ted (but I accept there are a lot of them around). I do know ons Miles, but it’s not a really close association, so it wouldn’t feel weird to use it.

Ahh! Names are hard! Confused

I have a Miles who is 13. I only know one more who is older.
It's not too out there and has a softness to it,I think. We call him Miley!

Violetlavenders · 28/03/2021 15:45

Theodore is nice but Theo seems the most natural shortening imo.

Miles is a unit of measurement like Kilometres. I don't like it as a name.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 28/03/2021 19:07

Not keen on Miles (as it reminds me of piles, sorry) but especially with Max because both having the same initial could be a pain for brothers with the post. So I'd choose Theodore nn Ted or even better (since it's more classic/less trendy) Edward nn Ted.

babynamelover · 28/03/2021 19:08

I prefer Ted or Theo with Max 😁

78percentLindt · 28/03/2021 19:16

I would re-inforce the comment about two people in the household with the same initial. My grandmother and I shared the same initial, and they lived in our house when I was a teen. Caused a bit of a problem from time to time, asshe imagined letters addressed to Ms or Miss A Smith were for her regardless.
I prefer Ted short for Edward or Edwin.

Becca0410 · 28/03/2021 19:53

I personally don’t like Edward. Plus, if he decided he didn’t want to be Ted when he was older, he might decide to be Ed or Eddie, which I equally dislike.

However, I wouldn’t mind if he decided to be known as Theo or Theodore when he is old enough to decide.

Ted. Not keen on Miles at all sorry!

Noodlesnoodlesnoodles · 28/03/2021 21:04

Miles! A fab name - could have Milo as a nn when little if you wanted, and Miles suits a grown man. Ted is a bit cutesy for me. I like Theo though.
